2016 project 52 1st Quarter Jon (plumcrak)

It is 2am on New Years morning and every body else is asleep. Hmm, what do you do? Well, I field strip the S&W and give it a good cleaning. This seems fitting for the start of a project 52!!

Ok, so what do all the bits do? (UK man here, never held a gun in my life)

So the top bit is the side I guess, beloved to be incessantly pulled in all action movies

Underneath is the barrel and chamber? Kinda surprised that bit can come out so apparently easy, I assume that part deals with a lot of loads and forces?

The next part looks like some sort of end cap, and I assume the barrel fits into the internal diameter, the end piece itself fits onto the slide

The next bit is an easy guess! The spring that forced the slide forward to load a new round, and the spring guide that keeps the spring's force focused in a linear motion?

But I'm not getting the kinda U shaped bracket at the bottom, and I can't quite see how the whole thing holds together, which is probably what the bracket does?!

I'm not into guns, just as well 'cos you can't have one where I live, but like all quality engineering the whole thing seems beautifully simple in design and execution (possibly the wrong choice of word )

The U shaped bracket is the part that holds it all together and once reassembled will hold the slide in the open position. Your description of the other parts is correct.

The W.W on the calendar I assume is an abbreviation of Wife's Work and just a reminder for her to do all the house work and mow the lawns....

S.W. is either her cloths size or Smith and Weston.

Week 2

OK, a little more thought (a very little) went into this weeks post. I am going to stay with the same theme for probably the next several weeks because I have trouble with shiny things. Not only do I have to be careful of glare and hotspots but they also distract me...kinda like a dog on a walk and a squirrel runs across his path.

The piece on the left is the same Smith & Wesson 9mm from last weeks shot, only assembled this time. The revolver on the right is a Colt single action Frontier Scout in .22LR. The Smith & Wesson was my Dads and the Colt was my Grandfathers. You could say I REALLY like to shoot...either with the camera of with things that go BOOM!!

The fur that these two are on is a Jaguar that was shot in Belim Brazil in 1944. I bought this at auction when I was 10 years old. My wife hates it so it has found a home in the basement mechanical room.

The shot is very good and almost true to life. I have a revolver but it gives a hard kick each time so it just stays on my shelf. I rather like the S&M here...better handling and just small enough to hurt. That one is neat even if the Colt looks better in the shot.

The S&W fits nicely in my hand as it is a single stack mag and very comfortable to shoot. The Colt was made in 1958 and is what they called a duo-tone. This is one you could shoot all day and not have to take out a loan for ammo.

I like my Ruger super Blackhawk .44 magnum but it is expensive to shoot( even though I reload) and has a mean recoil (kick)
I load some target loads for less recoil.That works pretty good.

Well, it is cold and snowing outside and I have been in bed all weekend.
This is the compass I got from my Grandfather when I was just a boy.

I like the first one best Jon, The conversion does justice to must be about ww1 era compass.

The first version is very nice, Jon. I find myself wondering though if you couldn't have made better use of that knot in the wood, compositionally speaking, like use it to balance the compass. Not that there is anything wrong with the composition as it is; just a thought.
