2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

I was given access to get anything on our Visa Rewards program points and I chose a Nikon point and shoot. I still have to read the menu but I pressed some buttons in it and see if it works. Here are some shots from the daily goings to our airport at Creve Coeur where many new hangar owners panicked thinking it might be the same kind of flood like the 1993 one where we lost several of our airplanes and had to give away sets of complete parts to the Luscombe Foundation because we couldn't be bothered cleaning them. We are no longer members of that group..

    Anyway...

1 This is the drain at the taxiway located right in front of our hangar ... When I took this one the water in there was still 4 foot down...but we go there about twice a day to check. It has been a draining few days for us just going back and forth so I decided to make this the first theme of my P52 for 2016..

2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

2 In just a few hours it did start to fill up...but still it is OK because our hangar is higher by a few inches more than the ones at the left...A bit later the water from the drain cause panic among some hangar owners, especially those ones that are in front of ours because theirs are more lower than ours. It was hell waiting for the cresting of the water not knowing whether it will go up a few inches more or not. I'll probably compare this to waiting for your toast in the toaster that doesn't have a 'Ding!' sound to it when it finished cooking, having to stand there and wait instead of being able to turn your back and wash a few dishes in the sink. You all know what I mean…those of you who have the newer digital toaster that doesn't make a sound, turn your back and when you return, your toast is either burned or cold.

3 House at the corner. This house has survived many floods in its life…even during the 1993 flood that devastated many properties around the area.

4 Near Creve Coeur Lake -- one of the many roads that had been closed off...

    5 New hangar from afar

    6 Inside the new hangar...

7 Another shot from the side of the hangar

2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

8 More Flooded areas -- these are the unlucky ones but not so much as they have newer hangars than ours and it is only water. The water will not go up as much anymore as we have sunshine the last few days...just messy...

2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

9 Another area, another view of some water seeping in on some and some on not...if you will look closely the concrete taxi way is still showing with very little water on top.

2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

10 and yet another view of the devastation ...

2016 Project 52 - January - Creve Coeur Airport flood

So before you all kick me out of here for showing you water, water, and water...I have to say I like the reflections in all of these...

Please criticize if you may. I do not mind...
Cheers all...and a very Happy New Year to you and yours.

A nice set of images Izzie with some nice compositions among them.

As Wavelength said the colors and lighting are nice but a just a tad to saturated for me (#2 and #5 in particular). I would also check your highlights on #9 to see if you could recover some.

I will look forward to what your project 52 has you up to next

Thanks Randy and Nandy for your comments...we are OK as we live on the side of the hill here. Some areas are less fortunate with loss of limbs and lives and homes that may not be repairable. I hope they have flood insurance. Creve Coeur airport is 20 minutes away from us...and just as we thought everything will be OK from yesterday on after we left the airport, listening to our weather radio (yes, we do have them...no advert too! amazing!!) we learned that they had the opened the flood gates last night. So now we have to go there early this morning to check. Again! We are lucky to have a second floor to our hangar so, so far the only thing to clean will be the floor. We need to have some stacks of pallets if there will be another freaky weather like this again. Some people who rent spaces for their airplanes have flown theirs to higher grounds like the Spirit where they pay $10/day for a tie-down and $25/day for hangar space...

Thank you for commenting...appreciate it very much.

Welcome back, Shane! Missed your postings...been a while since...moving on...
all of them are not like that as #9 because I had like the clouds very much...I think I forgot to add the last of the workflow to do the extra sharpening for uploading...I was working on jpg files from the new point and shoot. I am not used to it. Plus I moved everything here upstairs in my den, and my workflow list is downstairs stuck to the old piano there (wouldn't stick anything in new one..) I will try to correct it tomorrow after getting back from the airport.

I will look forward to what your project 52 has you up to next
This one is a spur of the moment decision. Next week will be the problem with all these cold weather here. I am dying ...!!! Hawaii is sounding so much better by the minute...hope you didn't come back to rub it in...

I've gotta say, "+1" on the colours and the composition, not to mention how sharp and clear each image is. Great stuff.

Thanks for the concern...it seems to be OK now...we got a call from the airport while we were out yesterday and was told there was no more to worry about...the cleaning up will surely have to be done over there, but I have my excuse not to help. Volunteer sandbagging was enough for me...gave me a good exercise although the men worked harder than moi.

Just gotta show how good a P&S can sometimes be even with limited controls...I guess that is why it is called Point and Shoot...LOL

    Thanks for commenting.

Oh yeah...those are favourites too...actually my favourite is #3 and with the help of Bill's eyes, I saw this one and took several shots as we were just sitting there staring at it...we did go inside pass the barrier though...

    Thank you for the comments.

The atmosphere is always good there...there seems to be something happening there all the time. It is the airplanes I am not too interested in. I like it when the boys (men, actually) bring out their remote control cars to play in the middle of the taxiway...they get yelled out by the 'real' pilots so the dump that you see in some areas there by the end of the rows of hangars, that is their playground...

    Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for your preferences, John...I like them too...in fact last night my project was printing all those to 12 x 12 and putting them on an album like I did with the 1993 flooding...

Thank you for passing by and commenting...

I will try them in B/W, Binnur after I recover from my operation today...I am sure I will be OK when the anaesthesia get the better of me...at least I have an excuse to be lazy on other things to do in the house and knowing Bill, he will do all the work today and I will be treated like a queen bee...

I will play with it....thanks for the suggestion. I do appreciate your comments as always..
