Pushkar Lake - Red Moon - C&C Welcome

Hi, going forward on my photography venture I stopped and clicked another shot. Can you please review it and let me know what exactly is missing for it to make it much better?

This moonset was clicked at Pushkar Lake. This color is the actual color of the moon bcoz it was just setting down.

Please provide your views and suggestion with composition, frame, crops. I have adjusted minor contrast in Lightroom. I'm really confused with the crops. I wanted to include the reflection to give sense of the place that it is pushkar lake.

    Thank You

PS : Please click on the image for lightbox screen view (Highly recommended)

Very nice; i like the image; the reflection accentuates the appeal of the scene

    Hi Raj,

I can see why you are struggling with the crops, there are lots of possibilities with this capture. I think the reflections are worth seeing.

Here's what I would do - to Version 3 (since I think that's the widest):
    a) Crop left side to just exclude the sign
    b) Crop right side to exclude the riverside face of the separate wall, but leave in what looks like an alleyway with bollards
    c) Clone out the two bright, and one dim, spots of light in the blackness of the top right quadrant
    d) Additionally, I might clone out the separate bright reflection on lower edge of image, just to right of centre (it's only there due to a momentary ripple in water anyway)

The crops from left and right are about 10% and 11% (respectively) of the version 3 image width and leaves you with something that is only slightly vertical/portrait orientation. I always set the crop of my images by the scene content, not trying to achieve a particular aspect ratio or even orientation, so that's how I arrive at the above suggestion.

If my description is not clear enough, I guess I could demonstrate.

    Hope that helps, Dave

To my way of thinking, Raj, this would have looked absolutely stunning with a full moon but I find that half moon to actually be distracting from the rest of the scene. So I am considering cropping to remove the moon!

However, as an alternative (working on #3) crop the top to reduce the space between the top of the moon and the image edge by around half; with a similar amount from the left side.

I'm not sure why but having the moon closer to the edge appears to produce a better overall composition.

Then clone the lights etc as Dave suggested.

thanks a lot for your details review and suggestions. I got your point about the crop and removing the distraction. I'm not in town right now, will surely do it as soon as i will reach.
