    Canon 7D image playback problem

When playing back an image to review it, if I hit the magnification button instead of going to 1.5x it immediately jumps to 10x. I have searched through the manual, checked on-line but cannot find how to fix the problem. I did a clear all custom settings reset but did not fix the problem.

Any suggestions on how to fix it to only go to 1.5x and then progress to 10x would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Odd. Sorry, but I can't help. I have a 7D original. Mine operates the way you want, and like you, I can't find a way to change it. I asked about the 7DII because this has controls similar to the 5D3, which I believe does allow you to change this setting.

Make sure that the firmware has been updated to version 2.0.5
Changes to the camera's features and functions introduced by the firmware update are not in the operating manual!

I have checked my manual in case there was a Custom Function which changed the magnification setting; but nothing obvious.

So the only suggestion I can make is to check the camera magnification button + top right on the camera back to see if the button is stuck in. Have you tried pressing the other magnification reduction buttons to see if they have any effect?

My only other thought is for come sort of firmware glitch which isn't cleared by the reset to default option. Have you tried removing the small battery as well as the main one?

    Certainly an odd problem.

    Hi Malcolm,

try pressing and holding the mag. button and scrolling back/forward with a dial wheel or the joystick, at the same time, tae see if it zooms incrementally . Don't have a Canon so...

Thanks to GrahamS - upgrading to 2.0.5 from 2.0.3 fixed the zoom problem!

Only issue now is that when I change CF card from the one I used to upgrade the software, it says MagicLantern will not work and goes no further. Have to remove battery and change back to the original card before camera will work.

    What did I do wrong?

    Regards,
    Malcolm

Malcom - are you using the most up to date version of MagicLantern? I wonder the version you are running is not compatible with the updated firmware on your camera?

Hi Manfred - on the Magic Lantern site it only shows 7D2.0.3, so looks like version for 2.0.5 is not available as yet. However I fixed the problem by formatting the problem card in my 50D and now works OK in the 7D.
