After the Storm & J73 (Critique Welcome)

Two quite different ones from my little photo stroll today!

    "After the Storm"

Is pretty much standard fare for me, some too light bits, some too dark bits, not all of it is in focus But I'm hoping it portrays a mood...? Dark and decaying, but with the promise of light and growth... YMMV.

    "J73"

Yeah it's a car with a reflection But although it might be a little flat when contrasted to my mood rhetoric, it's possibly a little better technically & it's good to do things a little differently than one normally does... but I think it offers the viewer less than the first one. YMMV

Thanks for your input, I always appreciate feedback.

Are you able to be more specific please? What's the story you're getting with the car shot?

    Hi Adam,

With #1, I would have cropped some off the right hand side, there's not a lot of interest going on over there, so that intrigues me why you left it there? I do like the execution of the idea though.

With #2, the story I get is perhaps (tongue in cheek), 'flooded garage' - there is water below it, but the car itself appears dry. Am I correct, or is the reflection something out of Photoshop

    Cheers, Dave

    Hi Dave,

That's a good suggestion re cropping, and I have to say probably the most frequently given bit of critique I get from my work here on CiC, so in answer to your question, I've no clue, you'd think that I'd have got the hint by now?!!

It's a real reflection, (ironically I did crop this one!) I don't own photoshop, and would have no clue how introduce something that's not real into any of my pictures... See also cloning!! In fact, lets be honest, how to crop seems to allude me, let alone anything that's actually technical!!

I'll go to my pc in a bit and post the SOOC jpeg so that peope can see just how miminal and basic my PP is!

Ok so just for reference and in case it is of interest...

Here's the car shot from above, but SOOC. This will perhaps open up lots of scope for people to say

    a) you need to buy photoshop
    b) you need to do a photoshop course

Maybe... my shadow/highlight work is perhaps passable I think...

I don't know why it's twisted? Meh turn your head

A story with reference to an image does not always mean a script or narrative; it simply means it has a life; you can connect it with various events of life; like a car parking in dark with a number that is not revealed completely...smell of some unfriendly things to happen

Yes you're quite right, photographical rhetoric doesn't have to be a standardised narrative.
