    Re: Fly

    Hi Rob I like #1 as the fly looks sharper and the composition is plainer.

    These are the shiny ones, do they bite? Some flies are quite nasty...and there is plentiful of them in Oz...in summer especially.

    Re: Fly

    Hi Rob,

    If I had shot these, I would crop all slightly differently;

    #1 Lose 15% (of image width) from left hand side, perhaps also a little from right hand side. I'd still keep a 'frame' formed by the verticals on either side, but much less of it. May be even take a slither off the top edge too. Also suggest tone down what remains of highlight on left.

    #2 Lose 15% (of image width) from left hand side, perhaps also a slither from the right hand side. Plus some off lower edge.

    #3 Lose 10% off left hand edge, a slither from top edge and some off the right hand side. Clone remove the most left hand bit of leaf on top edge, so there's nothing further left than berries.

    I cannot see any useful camera EXIF data, so I don't know what aperture you used, if you could squeeze a bit more Depth of Field, it would help. Although focus is good on all - in fact the technicals are good on all, hence mostly restricting myself to cropping suggestions.

    Hope those thoughts are constructive, Dave

    PS Izzie - they look like 'standard' house flies to me, which in UK wouldn't bite, but in Perth (Aus) - well who knows

    Thanks Dave, I have also tried to sharpen them up a bit more after conversion to JPEG. I'm not really sure it made any difference though.

    Yes, I see a difference when viewed in LyteBox and after hitting "F" key (to make them 1:1).

    I wouldn't have mentioned DoF if they'd been like this originally.

    You've probably cropped tighter than I had suggested, for (my) fear the image wouldn't stand it, but they certainly can.

    For example, in the first shot, at 1:1 with my screen pixels, I see blur and moire patterns on the eye, whereas now - I see the facets.

    Great work, Dave
