    Exploring life together

Taken at Edward's Gardens, a large park and botanical garden here in Toronto.
I was watching various people and small children exploring along the banks of a small river that flows through the gardens when I noticed an man carefully but tenderly holding onto a small child, while he explained the wonderous sights of the riverbank.

    Hi Robert,

It is indeed a great moment captured in a good composition.

Unfortunately the blacks look crushed (although not on histogram, so I guess in film stage?), this is also leaving the faces looking somewhat under exposed.

It also looks like you did something with the saturation, contrast and brightness of the background everywhere - except for the bit between his legs, but I could be wrong about this. (?)

    Thanks all for commenting.
    David,
Sorry, but I don't understand what "crushed" blacks means.
Yes, I played around with the contrast, saturation and brightness, but of the entire image, not just selected parts.
However, because of the position of the sun, the subjects' faces were in shadow and a bit dark, so they were in fact brightened about to bring out more detail, especially the man.

In his hair and the area of his jeans below his forearm, this seems to be simply 'blackness' with very few details beyond the odd specular.

I like the "moment" shot, but I really do not like the pp so much, like it was forced or something to be seen....

    Izzie,
Thanks for the comments. I don't understand what you mean by "forced or something to be seen".
The post-processing for this shot consisted of the following:
Levels/Contrast/Brightness/Colour Correction/De-saturation/smart sharpening/cropping and some brightening of both subject's faces.
I converted it to black and white but thought the child looked more angelic in colour, so left it in colour.

Robert, don't mind me...give me two weeks to recuperate from this operation and I will be able to think more straight-er. Nevertheless, I still didn't like the pp of this...I think it is too dark...

    Izzie,
    Hope you get better quickly.
I appreciate your input. I don't agree, but you remember what Uncle Sidney said "That's why we have chocolate and vanilla."
    And he was so right.
