Nice flower and shot - but there is some saturation-clipping in the inner petal areas and the center bit.

This can happen with flowers when converting from a wider color space to sRGB for posting.

If you view the flower image with standard sRGB assigned, saturation shows up when any flower color channel is zero ** (see note). Reducing saturation slightly, until the offending color channel(s) is(are) just above zero, takes the saturation below 100%, which you can check with the HSB color-picker.

I use a utility called 'Show Image' to check for saturation in JPEGs: it can show a map and a histogram of image saturation :



Observe in the saturation histogram at right that there are approx 78k out of 429k pixels (18%) clipped to 100% saturation. These are shown clearly in the image map as pure white. See also that, in the RGB numbers, G = zero - a sure sign of saturation clipping.

Another way in processing is to use perceptual rendering. However, simply selecting 'perceptual' rendering in PS doesn't work unless you have assigned a display-class sRGB profile with color look-up tables (CLUTs) in it. These profiles are typically 100-300Kb in size, similarly to printer profiles. However, the normal display-class profile is of the matrix type and is typically 5Kb or less; these matrix types are rendered in PS as 'relative colorimetric' (which clips out-of-gamut colors to the gamut boundary) whether you select 'perceptual' or not.

Note** - provided that the color-picker in PS shows the assigned values, not the underlying file values. This was not always the case in Elements. Perhaps someone here can comment about that?

Lovely! The big yellow part in the BG of #2 competes with the sharp flower in the FG. Reducing saturation of the yellow part in the BG might help.

Your winter is late! My mums were gone quite a while back...maybe I should move to Texas...you have more summers over there...I am freezing my butt off here and my stepson's corgi is still plowing ice in the backyard every time I send him out to do his doggie tasks.

It is cold here as well (not as cold as up your way - but cold enough) - cold enough I prefer to stay inside. Hence the store bought flowers (I tell my wife the flowers are for her, I just borrow them for a few hours to shoot).
