Hello everyone,
I'm Bill from Melbourne Australia. I just came across CiC from a reference in DPReview - amazing what's out there on the net that you don't know about until you stumble across it. I've recently retired from my day job after careers in marketing, IT and facilities management. I renewed my interest in photography 7 or 8 years ago after a long hiatus from the old film days decades ago. My interests are in landscapes, portraits, travel and macro. I have several cameras but my main units at the moment are a Canon 5D III and an Olympus OMD-EM5 MkII. I'm waiting on a new EM1 MkII which I'm hoping will become my travel/light weight kit replacing the EM5. I'm looking forward to exploring CiC...

Hello All, from the green state of Oregon, land of gray skies and gorgeous waterfalls. Portland, Oregon's motto is "Keep Portland Weird" so it's the perfect place for me. I've recently retired from 30 years in financial lending industry, which means I finally, FINALLY get to now completely immerse myself into digital photography. I am so grateful to be able to live a creative life at last and am looking forward to your helpful comments/ideas for photos I post. Thanks! Kris

Welcome to the CiC forums Dee,
If you tried to include an image in your post, it didn't work, as you can see.
However, if you're looking for critique or advice, you really need to post it in the most appropriate forum, in a new thread.
You may find this thread helpful:
HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?
plus you may find the first post in this thread useful:
How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images
Could you do me a favour please?
Could you click Settings (right at the top),
then Edit Profile (on left)
and put your first name (Dee) in the Real Name field,
then click the Save Changes button below and to right, that way we'll know who you are in future posts, as we like to use first names here.
Thanks, Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Thanks Dave. I have changed the profile to show my first name. I did try several ways to include an image, but failed with each. I will restudy the instructions and try again in a while. Maybe I need to resize, but I thought some of my tries were within the limits.

Hi! I've been taken photos for years, but I still want to learn something new.
I have a few microstock accounts and sell photos very rarely.
And I miss the film photography...

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello my name is John and photography has been a hobby since my childhood. I grew up with a father who worked with photography in the Army Air Corps in WW2. We had a dark room at home and he would do the family portraits himself including special effects. He instilled in me a life long interest in this hobby. I grew up in the time when we did it all ourselves, developing film and then doing printing in the dark room. Now we have digital and we get to do it all on the computer. Some of the romance and wonder is gone but its much cleaner and quicker now!
I have enjoyed watching the progress made over the years and love photography as much or more today as I did so many years back. I have found that there continues to be so much to learn and love sites like this where good people give of their time to share knowledge and experience. After over fifty years of photography I still enjoy it as much or more than ever. Now being retired I have more time to pursue my hobby and I look forward from learning from so many wise and skillful members here.

Hello John, and a warm welcome to CiC. With your background and approach you are going to fit right in. Learning and helping each other is what we are all about. I look forward to hearing more from you, and hopefully seeing some photos.
Best regards, Dave

Hi, bought myself a Sony DSC-HX400V two weeks ago that I'm still getting used to, and also trying to get out of the habit of using the auto settings by using the manual ones. I fair leap for me, but I think I'm getting there. It's for that reason I've joined CIC, I'm wanting to learn more on how to use the manual settings.

Good on you, Pete. It feels like a very uphill battle at times and you think, 'Why am I bothering?' But stick with it. The rewards are great. It will all slip into place one day and you'll wonder why you ever thought it was so difficult.
I can speak with authority. I've made the journey, as have the vast majority of folk on here.
I think you will find that people will be only too glad to offer advice and guidance and answer any questions that you have.

It would be helpful, in future posts, if we knew this info, so could I ask a favour?
Could you click Settings (right at the top),
then Edit Profile (on left)
and put "Kaz" in the Real Name field
and where you are (e.g. Nottinghamshire?, UK) in the Location field,
then click the Save Changes button below and to right,
this helps everyone give you more personal and relevant answers - thanks in advance.
What lenses do you shoot the D7200 with?
Cheers, Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Welcome Kaz.
