Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi everyone, my name is Dave and I'm from Alberta Canada. I'm interested to join a forum like this to read more about photography and learn from other's conversations and technical tips. My interests are to move past the 'point and shoot' camera style to use the manual modes on my Canon camera. I'm reading a lot right now and trying to understand how digital photography works, how to use the gear, compose pictures, use lightening etc.
Nice to meet you all!
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Welcome to CiC, Dave. It's nice to see another Canadian join. There are lots of people here who will be quite happy to help you progress in your photographic endeavors.

Hi all, my name is Erik.
I live in the Netherlands. My photographing hobby started about 40 years ago. At that time I used a darkroom to process my images. Nowadays I use Lightroom for processing. My main interest is landscape travel nature and macro. My toolset is made by Nikon. Though I started a long time ago I'm still trying to aprove my skills. Hope to learn a lot on this forum 👍 Thanks for accepting me.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Erik, and a warm welcome to CiC.
We're all trying to improve our skills (some more effectively than others  ) by sharing and helping each other. It sounds as though you'll fit right in.
Look forward to seeing and hearing more from you.
Best regards, Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

I'll give it a try.
As soon as I can find the time I will upload some photo's
Best regards,
Erik
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello all,
My name is Bill. I live outside of Detroit, Michigan, USA.
I have been a family photographer (some professional work) for 40+ years. The first couple of decades with film and the last couple of decades with digital.
Three years ago, one of my sons and I started a non-profit charity focusing on helping our US Veterans. We currently conduct 3 in-depth digital photography courses that are completely free to our veterans and their spouses. The course contains about 40 hours of classroom lecture and 16 hours of field trips.
This CIC site has been very helpful for me to "get it right" before we teach it. Thanks to the very knowledgeable associates and members. Training our Vets is a wonderful and rewarding experience for both the instructors and students. I've learned a lot too.
My son is our resident expert on the lab and I more the theory. He's the Nikon nerd and I the Pentax.
Again thanks to all the knowledgeable people that I've read in my research. I'll be posting a couple of questions shortly.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Bill, and a warm welcome to CiC. I'm very pleased that we have been able to help you in your training program.
Is the idea to teach photography to the Vets as a hobby? I know that as servicemen and women leave the forces they can find re-entry into civilian life very hard, and I can imagine that learning something as gentle yet challenging as photography would be good.
Hope to hear more from you,
Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi community!
I'm Lucio, from Italy, Ceglie Messapica, down south.
I loved photography since i was 12 (now 55) and it has been an important part of my life. I have worked as a Pro for some years but now i'm doing something different without leaving it a chance to come back again...
I had a break during the transaction from film to digital. After a restart with a Nikon PS camera i went back to my film era with Canon. Now a new lover showed up it's name is Olympus and we spend a lot of time together with a lot of pleasure. It let me take pictures thinking as little as possible about the camera and getting deeply involved in the scene in front of me.
I dropped on your website by chance while i was looking for information about IR photography and since the first glance it seemed to me very complete going deep into the different topics.
After that came the registration.
Hope to have a good time around here.

Hello, my name is Alec and I'm a photographer based in Washington, DC, USA. My focus is on photography as a way to express my connection to the natural world. I've been using Lightroom heavily and Photoshop lightly for the last ten years.
Recently I've worked to educate myself on Photoshop and am learning some interesting techniques including multi-pass and hybrid sharpening that have opened up a new world of mid-tone adjustments.
I'm looking for a community to help me understand and develop some of these techniques.
Alec
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello, my name is Gary. I am about to purchase a Nikon D5500, a 50mm, 35mm and 70 - 300mm lens as an introduction to DSLR photography. I have had slrs in the past and did wedding photography as a part time career in the 90s. I thought I would get back into photography in my advancing years. If anyone would like to comment/advise on my choice of equipment I would be very grateful. I have a decent knowledge of photographic techniques, but not digital. Could anyone recommend a good place to get digital pictures printed/enlarged? I live in Norfolk UK. I look forward to reading/participating in the many forums
regards
Gary

Hello Alec, and a warm, if slightly belated, welcome. There are many very expert members here who could help with what you are looking for, and I'm sure they will respond to any questions.

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello Gary and a warm welcome to CiC. You'll find a lot of things in the technology have changed, but getting the light and composition right never does. For me the biggest change has been being able to see the results of my efforts straight away on the back of the camera instead of that wait for the developed film. An other thing is that all modern cameras are just so darn good, it's really hard to make a bad choice.
That said, I'm no expert on Nikon kit, and not all that many members read this section of the site, so if you want feedback on your choice of kit I suggest that you re-post here: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/forum2.htm where you'll get a lot more feedback. Always best to say what it is you want to photograph as well!
For printing (and incidentally, the idea of "enlargement" mostly went away with film) I have found Loxley very good for quality prints https://www.loxleycolour.com/ but again you will get more suggestions if you repost here: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/forum7.htm
And then you will probably want or need to get into "post processing" your images - the digital equivalent of the old darkroom.
Jump on in, and ask any questions that spring to mind,
Dave

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello - I guess i'm a photography retread. After a gap of twenty years or so I've recently traded in my Olympus OM4 for a second-hand OM-D EM10 Mk II, which I'm enjoying a lot.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi, and welcome on board. If you're going to hang around, it would be good if you could add your name and rough location to your profile.
Cheers,
Dave

Hello, My name is Catherine and I live in Ottawa, Canada. I am very new to photography but I go out with a camera everyday and learn everyday. At the moment though the result of every shot is still a surprise... I was brought to this excellent site by way of some tutorials that I clearly needed to read before I took this photo. My camera is the Nikon P900 which is, perhaps, a good camera to launch off with. A DSLR can come later if I improve enough.

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Welcome to CiC, Catherine. It's nice to see another Ottawa photographer here. Would you mind clicking the "My Profile" button at the top of the page and adding your first name and location to the profile? Where did you take this shot; Mud Lake?
There are lots of members that will be more than happy to help you improve your photographic skills. I'm not a bird photographer but we have a number of members who are very good at that genre.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Thanks, Manfred! Took the photo at Dows Lake. I will update my profile now. (Don’t know how to give a thumbs up on this page. Maybe people would prefer I did that rather than clutter a page with my thanks?)...Oh, just looked at your portfolio. What beautiful work!!!
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello and welcome. Looks like you already have a good conversation going in the forums , so I'll leave it there.
The key thing about CiC is that we are all here to help each other.
