Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hi everybody,
Just joined the forum after found great topics in the site to learn from.
Holding a camera since I was 13, with my first Fujica Compact35 until now using canon 60D, and must say that the invention of the digital cameras and internet changed my life, really.
Please excuse my humble English, sometimes I will ask for explanation of technical issues.
Living in Givatayim, Israel, 65, and taking photos of any subject, from nature to architecture, aviation to just observing people.

But, as technology progresses, with all the experience I have, I find some topics with more difficult subjects especially when processing RAW to JPEG on Canon-DPP (Do not have / do not know to use Photoshop).

Attached is a link to Trekearth web-site where I am a keen member since 04/2008, my gallery is at:

    Sincerely, Ike Harel

Hello Ike, and welcome to our community. I hope that you will enjoy being a member, and will be joining in our forums and discussions. I don't think we have many members from Israel, and I hope you'll also be sharing some of your photos with us.
(By a coincidence, we are off to Israel in October for a family wedding)

    Best regards, Dave

I recently (Luckily!) stumbled across this Forum. I've been in and out of photography for years, but I've decided to get a little more serious with it - this looks like a great resource.

Strictly an amateur, I have much to learn.

    Real name is Fred, Thanks!

    Hello Dave,
Just now managed only a small post of an attachment type photo, not the full page picture.
Something I do is not allow me to do so.
    Good evening,

I've seen this before, but I can't remember the solution. I'm sure someone will come to help. However, if I click on the small image I do get a good sized picture.

Hello Steven and welcome to our community.

That's a pretty impressive cv! With all that gear, what do you like to take pictures of? Hope to see and hear more from you around the forums.

    Best regards, Dave

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hello,
I'm very much the beginner and have embarked on a project that is almost overwhelming me. I write short stories from time to time, just for my own amusement. On the birth of our first grandson, I penned a little story and then my wife suggested that I turn it into a "real book." Gulp! This means, photography, illustrations, printing, book binding etc. I have been working on this for over a year and I don't yet have my environment together. Here's what I have so far, followed by a few questions on which I would be happy to hear comments.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that I would need some sort of color management so I got the Datacolor suite of products. I wanted a light small camera that would manage the things I needed for the book. I settled for the Sony RX100M5. I had NOT been told by the Datacolor support person that the SpyderCHECKR did not create ICC profiles directly and did not support Affinity Photo, which is the editing software I chose.
Question 1. Does anyone know how I could use the SpyderCHECKR to produce an ICC camera profile that I could use in Affinity Photo?

I am planning to upgrade my monitor to the NEC PA271Q (or something close). I chose the Canon PRO-100 as my printer and, for months, was getting quite awful results from a wide variety of papers till I finally got great results from a Red River paper where I used the ICC profile that Red River supplied. This made me very suspicious of my Datacolor SpyderPRINT and, indeed, that's where the problem lay. Eventually, I got it working correctly and now have a reliable way of calibrating printer/paper combinations.
I now feel that I am close to getting my environment in place (I have built a sewing frame, laminating machine and paper-folding machine along the way.) But I still have one (at least) problem left.
Affinity Photo does provide soft-proofing and this is a great help. However, if there are undesirable artifacts due to color space mismatch, I find it pretty difficult to know just how to "nudge" the primary image so as to make the printed version more acceptabe. EIZO seems to have a solution to that with their Quick Color Match (which works with PhotoShop).
Question2. Does anyone know of any software apps, or plugins that might help me either as a stand-alone or in conjunction with Affinity Photo?
    With thank.

Capture 1 Sony Pro is an excellent post processing package designed for Sony cameras.

    Welcome Tom,

Sounds like you've had a busy life and now are finding stuff to pack in to "retirement" too!

What do you shoot, or want to shoot, with a DSLR - and do you have one yet?

    All the best,
    Dave

Hello Doug , and a very warm welcome. I envy you living in the Bay area (Well apart from the property prices!). I've visited there a few times, including San Leandro where we used to deal with a software company.

I hope you enjoy being a member, and hope you'll share some of your images.

    Best regards, Dave

    Greetings Dave,
Thanks for the warm welcome. You have much more travel experience than me. Ive been out of the country once, to Bulgaria in 2016 visiting a good friend. Yes, property prices are ridiculously out of control in the bay area. Our little 1400 sq ft bungalow is worth about $800 thousand US. Not a gloat but rather a sad fact. Thanks for the post, I'm pleased to meet you. All the best, always.
    Best Regards,
    Doug Olsen

    Hello! Bonjour!
My name is Florence. I have always been interested in photography without being able to leave the auto mode. Time to learn! I would like to know where to start. Do I follow the tutorials as presented?
I live in the Paris-Versailles area where I taught English as a second language until recently.

Hi Florence, you might start by reading your camera manual to find out what buttons do what in manual mode. If Manual is scary (it was for me) you can take a slower route and try Aperture priority which allows you a loot of freedom.

    Welcome to CiC.

Bonjour! If you haven't already, you should read the tutorials here on Cambridge in Colour. Just go to Home, and click on Tutorials

Start with Photo Essentials then raise any questions here in the forums. We're always delighted to help.

    Bienvenue, Dave,
