Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Good morning from smokey northern British Columbia, Canada. It is smokey because of the all the forest fires that are ravaging our forests.
I retired from the "the job" three years ago and started using photography as a hobby. My first camera was a Canon Rebel XSI but I found it and lenses to be too bulky to travel with (I like to travel light). I purchased a bridging camera - Canon SX50 HS and after using it I put the XSI aside and now only use it occasionally if I am fidgeting with extension tubes. Recently I purchased a Sony RX10 IV because i wanted a larger sensor and more capabilities.
Throughout my life, I have never seen myself as the artistic type (although my children are) and so I always question my abilities to take reasonably good photos. I am spend a lot of time viewing tutorials wherever I can find them. I view the photos of others and sue them as a springboard to my own learning. As age creeps up and vision goes down, I realize I need to learn as quickly as I can. I post some photos on Instagram (weldonjoseph_) and facebook.
I came across this site from an instruction book on the RX10 IV and so far I really enjoy it. I know I will devour the tutorials and probably submit some photos to the contests that I see are running.
Thank you for your instruction, motivation and enlightment.
Weldon

Welcome to CiC Weldon. I have not been back to Northern BC in quite a few years and now that my wife and I are retired, we have planned to go back and spends some more time exploring places we have not been to yet. So far we are still just at the "talking about it stage" but hopefully the talk will be acted on sooner or later.
I definitely do not consider myself as the artistic type either, but am quite creative, so I enjoy making images that are interesting to look at.

Weldon, welcome to CiC.
Victoria became smokey again this morning. Presumably smoke decided to blow back in from the southern interior as it has in the past-- so I probably can't blame fires in your area!
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Maybe you can blame our fires. The wind changed and today we are clear.

Hi, My name is Gerry Fraser, a semi-retired doctor (gastroenterologist) who never had time for doing something creative but always enjoyed photography. I love the combination of art and technology. Now that I have more time, I bought a Sony A7R2, Fe24-70 GM and 70-300 G lenses. Did a basic course and am now looking to progress. Still not sure what my niche might be so I am trying as many different types of situations as possible. I use Flickr and have an account. Very much look forward to interacting with you. Live in Herzliya, Israel. Below is a link to personal picture on a recent trip to India. https://www.flickr.com/photos/148411.../shares/iz82Sn.

Just joined. Refuge from another forum that imposes odd restrictions and doesn’t support the free exchange of ideas. Long time Nikon loyalist switching to Fuji for numerous reasons. Enjoying “retro digital”. Focused a lot on macro in the past. Recent visit to a “dark space” outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA and tried Astrophotography for the first time. Attached is my first effort—untouched over than the processing done by the camera. For whatever reason, cannot get the image to attach. So there you go. Thanks, Allen

Hi Gerry and Allen, welcome to CiC! You'll find it a friendly forum with folk with lots of experience and skill (and, also folk with not so much skill, such as myself).

Hi, my name is Peter and I´m living in the Hanseatic city of Luebeck, North Germany.
I've been taking photos for many, many years. Since I'm retired I have much more time for this beautiful hobby. I also joined the Photographic Society Luebeck.
After some cameras with smaller sensors I take pictures with a Canon 6D. Full format as at analog times. Cambridge in Color is for me a place where I can develop myself through tutorials, competitions and criticism. I am looking forward to positive as well as negative criticisms that show me where I can improve myself.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Peter, and a warm welcome to CiC. You sound like just the kind of person who will fit in well here, so I hope you enjoy and find it useful.
I remember Lübeck and the Holsentor from more than 40 years ago! We had a strange and rather alarming experience there, which wasn't photography related!
Best regards, Dave

Hi Kevin, welcome on board - glad to have you here. When I saw Chesterfield I thought you are just over the hills from us, but it seems you are somewhat further away :)
