Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Everyone, I am Stuart Hasson, a portrait photographer in Atlanta Georgia, U.S.A.
I've been creating portraits professionally since 1987 and still absolutely love my job. I get to meet fantastic people and I've traveled all over the world with my camera for work and pleasure.
I am a big advocate of learning at every chance I get, which has brought me to this group, primarily seeking knowledge of printing images to the highest quality. I sadly left my darkroom behind as I joined the digital age in 2001. I use a pro lab for my printing (White House Custom Colour) as the time and expense have proven to be a sound business move for me. I would love to get back to printing my own images, but will let the cards fall as they may, with help from this group. Thanks for the support.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Stuart,
Welcome to the forum. I look forward to your images and to your critiques of my own.
Re printing: Although I started on photography many decades ago, I am still only an amateur, and there are people on the forum who know much more than I do about printing. However, I do have one non-technical observation. Years ago, when I initially trying to learn a good workflow for printing, someone said to me: the main reason to choose between printing your own and using a very good lab (he specifically recommended WHCC) is your preferences. He said that many people he knows find it frustrating, while others find it enjoyable. I don't know that I can explain why, but once I learned how to do it, I found that I greatly enjoy doing it myself. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to do the entire process myself, from the initial capture through hanging on the wall. Maybe it's just a throwback to my B&W wet darkroom days in the distant past. It's slow, so if your work requires large volumes, it may not be the way to go, but I print in very small numbers, so that isn't an issue for me. Not only do I find it fun; I like the almost instant feedback and the chance to redo things if I don't like the output. Just my taste.
Dan

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello,
I'm Kay. I recently purchased a Nikon D3300. My first digital. I enjoyed photography in college. I majored in journalism and took my first photography course. I enjoyed it so much, that I also took the course offered by the Art Dept.
I recently retired and want to get back into real photography. My camera then, was a 1965 Canon PELLIX, a hand-me-down from my uncle. I liked working in the darkroom, but after college, I didn’t have time or money for my own darkroom.
Now, with DSLRs, the darkroom is not an issue. Its been over 40 years since I took those photography courses. I have a lot of relearning and catch-up to do.

Hello everyone. My name is Jim, I live in Loveland, Colorado, USA. I caught the photo virus when at 12 years old my parents gave me a Kodak Developing kit. A professional photographer for 60 years I was privileged to practice industrial photography for several corporations including the National Center For Atmospheric Research and Kodak. In my "retirement I am enjoying what I describe as, Quiet, Peaceful, Photoart. Along the way I taught a few classes where the first thing I did was to introduce the students to Cambridgeincolour.com where they could learn far more than I could teach.

Hello Kay, and a warm welcome to our community. Yes, the technology has changed and in my view much for the better, but the light and the composition not at all. I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time - and no need to wait for the darkroom to be sure of what you have captured.
Regards, Dave

HI there and welcome. I look forward to seeing some of your pictures.
It would be good if you could edit your profile and tell us where in the world you are, and if you wish your "real name".
Best wishes, Dave

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hey, all! I've wanted to do the photography as a hobby since I was in HS, just got the time now. Looking at Nikon D3300 as my first camera and been reading around communities to get some tips. It looks nice around here so I signed up.

Hello, My name is Jeni Marinier and I'm from New Gisborne, Victoria, Australia. I am very new to photography and my instructor (wisely) advised me to explore this website. I have read many of the topics and have already added to my knowledge. I am a bit nervous about sharing my pics but know that I will continue to improve with constructive criticsm!! I am currently using an old Sony A37 but am waiting on delivery of a new Sony A6500. Thank you for creating these forums to help and guide photography enthusiasts like myself. :)

Good to have you on Board.
If you go back in to your profile you could add in your real name and your location, just so people from around the world know who you are and where your from.
Remember the dumbest question is the one you don't ask. People on here will be very glad to offer advice and answer questions. Just ask them, even though you think it a stupid question or you think that you should know that already.
Look forward to seeing some of your images.

Yep, I remember that feeling Jeni. The first picture I ever posted (not on here) never got any replies. Nothing. Not saying it was good; not saying it was bad. Just nothing. I was devastated.
But, please believe me that this is a forum unlike many others. Here you will find people willing to help you learn and improve. When you post an image, tell folks what things you'd like them to think about in replying to you, instead of just putting up a pic with no text from yourself. There are others like me just don't reply to such pics. If the photographer can't be bothered to write about what he/she think or wants to know, then I can't be bothered to reply.
Look forward to seeing your work.

hello folks,
I'm a semi active sports photographer (mainly motorsport) who changes into landscape/travel photography mode when out and about. my interest in digital photography began when I purchased my first dSLR back in 2007 (a Canon 30d). Have been visiting this site for some time and passing along links to your tutorials to fellow photographers along the way. I look forward to being an active member here. cheers
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Wayne, and a warm if rather belated welcome, but delighted to see that you have already entered the competitions. Good luck, and I hope you'll share many more of your images.
