Hello Chris and welcome to the forum. Thank you for deciding to join this one as your first ever. I hope it meets all your needs.
Before getting to your question - So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Now - What people are going to need to know before they can make any comments is - What is the problem? Ideally you need to post up some images that show the problem and describe the circumstances in which it is happening.
I'd suggest that you need to post your images into the Nature & Architecture or People & Pets section of the forum. If you're not sure how to do this, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
The post your image and give folks an explanation of what the problem is.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi, after half a life time of pretending to take decent photographs and being mostly disappointed with the results, I decided to take some welcome advice from people who know how to do it properly !
Landscape and close ups with a Canon HS50SX and Sony A450 DSLR. Looking forward to learning with you all,
Michael.

Well ... Sometimes!!
Hello Michael and welcome to the forum.
The one good thing about this forum is that people involved don't think they know all the answers. But between the people on here, most of the answers are known and there's always someone willing to help with advice and suggestions. And it's also not a place just for the elite shooters. It's for everyone of all abilities.

Hi, my name is Khun Yee, living in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I got back to taking pictures a few years ago when my daughter was born. And when I needed a hobby to get myself out of my chair in front of the computer---I was writing code eight, nine hours or more a day every day at that time---I was thinking about either a clarinet or a camera. I chose a camera because I thought it would be cheaper, as I certainly did not need to keep buying reeds for the clarinet. Big mistake, as it turned out. But anyway, it has been a very enjoyable hobby so far.
I don't join forums usually as I don't like to voice my opinion that much. But people in this forum seems to be very nice and polite. English is not my first language, so if the tone in my messages is not right, do let me know.
I am sure I will learn very much here. My interests in photography are flowers, birds, and landscapes. I also take pictures for my kid and other kids in concerts and performances; to do that well I still have tons to learn.
Thank you.

Yep, once you get hooked into photography it can get very expensive

I'm delighted that you feel this about the CiC forum. It is certainly the intention that everyone should treat everyone else with courtesy and respect. If someone does not behave that way, we usually manage to sort it out.
I hope we'll see some of your pictures on the forum.
If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
Something else you might find useful. Sometimes people are not sure about asking for comment and critique on their images. This thread gives you some helpful advice and guidance about how to get the best feedback from fellow members.

Hello CiC I am enthusiastic photographer and have perused a particular interest in wildlife photography for three years. Whilst I enjoy the taking of images I am conscious I lack a full understanding of the process involved and associated technical issues. I anticipate my participation in CiC will provide an opportunity to address these shortcomings and enhance my photographic experience and images. Kind regards.

Hello!
My name is Tom and I live in the Jeffersonville, IN area (right across the Ohio river from Louisville, KY).
I've been in photography for MANY years, but I'm still in learning mode. My color darkroom (for film) is still operational and still gets used on occasion. That said, I'm solidly in the digital photography world too. Trying to be comfortable with HDR.
Looking forward to participating in the group!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I am a new member to this forum. I have joined to get some help in launching into digital photography. I was a moderate amateur photographer with 35mm film (mostly chrome) some years ago. When the shift to digital began, I got out of my equipment investment (Nikon F series) and just used a digital P&S cameral for the usual family stuff. Now, as I begin reading about digital, I find I need to learn a lot more about light processing and digital transformation than I knew before and also overcome a major case of sticker shock! This site is very helpful with the technical learning curve. As to sticker shock, I expected an inflation adjusted investment similar to 35mm equipment. Not so. Would someone briefly comment on why digital SLR equipment - camera bodies and lenses are so expensive. I will be undertaking a major travel itinerary next year and am considered a digital SLR and a few lenses. I need help on choices, especially given the prices for digital SLR equipment.
Thanks for any help you all could offer,
Davey Ditzer

Raymond - As you can see from my location, I'm just a few miles down the road from you. Great to have you on here.
A good thing about this forum, I think, is the fact that there are lots of people very willing and able to share knowledge and experience to help others learn, such as processes and technical issues.

And it's a pleasure to welcome you, Tom.
Your reference to a colour darkroom hints at a fair level of experience in photography. I hope you'll feel able to share that with others. CiC is that sort of forum.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Davey - First of all, welcome. Great to have you here and I hope you find it useful as well as enjoyable. Glad you like what you've seen on the CiC site already.
As to your question .... That's a very good question. I suppose the thing about DSLRs is the fact that you are, to all intents and purposes, walking around with a fairly technical piece of electronic equipment. The R & D behind what we then throw around in a camera bag is extensive and that's got to bge recovered somehow. The other point is that the P & S and mobile phone market is the mass-market end of photography these days. DSLRs are, relatively speaking, a niche market with lower volumes involved, hence higher prices.
