Thanks Donald, I've enjoyed my first foray into the forum and picked up a couple of nice tips. The username is still Scouse but I took your advice and added the Ken. The part of the world, well that's after 4 countries and 4 US States. (And they still find me ) Pacific Northwest these days.

Hi Arun, and a warm welcome to CiC. Learning and sharing is what this forum is all about, so you have come to the right place.

This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know whereabouts you are in world, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). To do that, you click Settings (right at top), then Edit Profile (on left) and put your first name in the Real Name field and where you are (roughly) in the Location field. That way, your details will appear alongside all of your posts.

Hope to see you around the forums,

    Dave

Hi to all. My name is Graham I'm a retired heavy goods Instructor/driver. I have had a Canon 350D for a few years now and have never ventured beyond the automatic setting but I am now determined to try and master the dark art of the TV,AV and other settings on what I think is a good camera.
So I reckon that I will be posting plenty of questions which many may find a little simple but for which I need simple answers because believe me reversing a 45ft articulated lorry into a very tight space is child's play in comparison to learning all the settings I have found on my camera, so please bear with me a I'm sure that with a lot of help I can take some half decent photographs. Cheers

    Hi Everyone,
I am a new member and have been a photographer since I was 10 years old. I shoot with a Mamiya RZ that I bought from my brother, and with several Kodak film cameras from the 1920's. I teach cinematography and am a working cinematographer that shoots both film and digital media. I do not own a digital SLR, but often shoot with a "refitted" Canon 7D with Zeiss PL Mount Compact Primes.
I enjoy looking at other photographers work, and am constantly learning and evolving as a photographer/cinematographer.

Go for it Graham. At first you'll feel as if you're taking several steps backwards, but stick with it. The rewards will come and you'll get far more enjoyment out of your photography.

So I reckon that I will be posting plenty of questions which many may find a little simple but for which I need simple answers
There is no such thing as a dumb question on here. Even the very best photographers on here had to start from where you are at the moment. The good thing about this forum is that they don't forget that.

Thanks for joining. Hope you enjoy it.

    Greetings All,
I'm Lynda, and I stumbled across Cambridge in Colour when searching for ways to make jewelry sparkle in product photography. Lucky me, as a quick skim of the site indicates there's a lot of helpful talent out there.

I use a Nikon D50 with a light tent and Daylight Balanced 5000K high CRI compact fluorescent bulbs for most of my product photography for an Etsy shop and a friend's web site.

Looking forward to learning a lot from you all, and hopefully be able to chime in to help others out on their questions.

    Well, well here I am.

My real name is Hendrik (without the c before the k that too many English speakers like to add). There is a revival of photography in my life and I know that forum member are going to help me iron out the problems.

As my nickname implies I use ONLY Olympus cameras including the very versatile P-n-S TG-1. In actual fact I`ve become lazy and use this trusty implement too much :-/ I`m now in the process of acquiring the M1 with a Sigma 60mm F2.8 lens.

Most recent Sunset taken with my trusty TG-1. No post-processing only resizing

Hello Hendrik, and welcome to CiC. I am sure there will be a few folks here who will want to help iron out any problems you have, and I hope that with your experience you'll feel that you can help others, too. There are a fair few Olympus shooters around here, though I suspect most of them are in the micro 4/3 camp. Anyway, apart from a little friendly banter, we don't get too hung up around brands so I hope you'll be joining in the forums and and enjoying you time here.

    Hello Everyone
New guy here. Well not so new just did not realize I never introduced myself. I am Terrenzo. I am new to photography, I really do not know much about it. but want to learn more so that is why I am here hoping to learn and have some fun in the process. I purchased some equipment from a friend of mine who upgraded his camera and I got all his old equipment. I purchased it a while back, but due to my work and family I never really used it except on Auto. I feel its time to get away from automatic mode. So here I am. I am a Canon user (Canon T3i gripped) The lenses I received from him are all Canon lenses 50mm EF 1:1.8, 18-55mm EFS, 10-22mm EFS, 55-250mm EFS, 28-135mm. The flashes I got from him are Canon Speedlite 580 Ex II, and 430 Ex II. So now I have all this equipment and need to know how to use it. Hope to hear from everyone.

Hi Chris, and welcome to the community. You have come to the right place to learn, and one of the refreshing things about CiC is that we DON'T pick anyone's work to pieces. Yes, there is a lot to learn and most of us are learning (probably all of us), but the great thing is that with today's equipment you can start making good images very quickly. If you haven't already, have a read of the tutorials here on CiC - they really are very good.

This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know whereabouts you are in world, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). Hello Terrenzo, and a warm welcome to CiC. You've certainly go all the kit you need, and as you say you now have to learn how to use it. As I said to Chris above, read the tutorials to give you a good grounding and then start posting and asking in the forums. If you are new to dslr photography, one suggestion I would have is to start with the camera on either A or P mode, and learn how it behaves. I have the same camera, and I know it can produce fine images.

An apology, but I am going to cut and paste from other posts:

    Hello,

My name is Kelly Reed and I've been taking photographs for the past 40 years. Started getting serious again a few years ago. Looking to gain more experience with shooting weddings and portrait photography. I still enjoy landscapes and cityscapes when I have the chance to get away. I work full time in downtown Houston, so I sometimes get the chance to get in early enough to get some early morning shots of the Houston skyline.

Hi folks, Real names Gareth, only took up photography around four years ago but haven't really put the camera down since ,totally addicted, kinda wish i had taken it up 10-20 years ago as I dont think you can ever stop learning something like photography.I shoot mostly wildlife including some macro and a bit of landscape, mostly in and around the Leicestershire and Warwickshire countryside all using my trusty little Sony A37 which I love to bits but feel its about time I upgraded to something a bit more capable,in the meantime still having lots of fun upgrading my photography skills every day

And that, Gareth, is indeed what it should be about for us folks not trying to make a living out of photography. And it is what, I hope, this forum helps with.

    Good to have you here.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
