Hi All I am an old member from Cape Town and have used CiC for many years as a wonderful learning centre. So I have re-registered, having recently moved to UK. I recently retired after working in the scientific instruments industry, principally in sales and support for Olympus microscopes and digital imaging systems.

Hi, im katrina I have taken up photography as a hobby and I am hooked on it now. I own a fuji finepix hs50exr I enjoy this camera but in the future would love to own a good dlsr.

Thanks Mr Donald for your advise. I have just received my new Sony Alfa a58 M with 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens kit. I bought it as I was getting a good deal from Amazon. However as advised by you I will use only 18-55mm lens to start with. I shall post my photographs soon for your reviews.

Hi, new guy here.
I was referred here from another forum, not photo related by the way, and decided there was a lot to learn here so decided to sign up. I'm interested in furthering my photographic adventures and from what I've read in the short time I've had looking around here it looks like this will be a good place to hang out and pick up some good info.
My hardware ranges from a couple of inherited Leica's to old Nikon and Minolta film cam's all the way to a recently purchased used NEX 7 I hope to learn to use with my legacy lenses. Nothing like mixing the old and new technology for a good time.
As you can see I'm from sunny So Cal USA so shooting is pretty much a year-round activity.
I'm also looking forward to seeing what you all think of some of my photo's, but I must warn you they are mostly car related.

Hello, Roberta and welcome to the CiC forum. Great to have you here and I hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

I'm not a Lightroom user, so can't answer your question. But if you go into the 'Image Post Processing ...' section of the forum, click on the 'Post New Thread' tab and create a new thread in which you ask that question, then I'm sure someone will come along with the answer.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Good day all,

My name is Dave Pierce (aka Hawki) and I just became the newest newbie here. I'm in the process of retiring after 42 years of engineering and have finally found the time to become serious about my photography. I have shot Pentax since the '70s and just purchased their latest flagship camera, the K-3. It is by far the finest piece of photographic equipment I've ever owned and enjoy it every time I press the shutter. I, like most will be on a constant quest for the perfect lens(es) to add to this kit.
I have been actively seeking a website where people will give me honest appraisals of my work so that I can continue to grow as a photographer while I hope to help those very few that can gain something from my input. This appears to be that site.

Hello every one, as you can see from my user name my names Phillip, I live in Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire. I am new to photography realy only having a cheap point and shoot style camera (both film and digital ) without any means of adjustments to the settings at all until recently. I have now upgraded to a proper digital camera that I can make these changes to and am eager to learn how to use these features with the he;lp guidance and knowledge of you other members here.

My other interests are:- fishing, animals, birds and the countryside, and wood work. I am also very interested in steam road traction and static steam power.
