Hello. Great to have you here. But who are you?
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy being part of this forum.
Hello Freixo.

I am Harold. Now retired. Photography has been hobby since my teens, and digital photography since 1999. Use Lightroom & Photoshop CC. LRPS over 10 yrs ago. Main cameras Nikon D800E & Fuji XT-1
Hello, I am David from Derbyshire England. After using roll film for 28 years I have just brought a Pentax K50 and still at the "what does that button do?" stage but slowly getting there. Once I figure how to operate the camera in manual mode I would love to do close up and special effect photography. I found CiC whilst searching for online photography courses. I am hoping to make photography my job in the future but I know I need to start from the bottom and work my way upwards.
Thank you for your time and help.
Hello David, and welcome from another David just over the border in East Cheshire. Some things are different with digital, but the basics of composition and exposure don't change. The big difference is in what you can do with your images afterwards in "post processing" (and that digital film is free, and you don't have a wait for the results). I prefer sitting in a warm room in front of my computer to a dark and smelly darkroom, though others miss it. If you haven't already, do check out the tutorials on this site, they can give you a real leg up in understanding digital.
Dave
Welcome Harold,
What subjects do you enjoy shooting most?
(I'm usually into wildlife)
Could you do me a favour please?
Could you click Settings (right at the top),
then Edit Profile (on left)
and put your first name in the Real Name field
and where you are (roughly) in the Location field?
this helps everyone give you more personal and relevant answers - thanks.
Welcome to the CiC forums, Dave
Hi, my name is Happy and a complete beginner at both photography and this forum. I worked with professional photographers in my previous occupation and decided to try out photography myself. Currently I own a Sony A7S and like its compact size and low-light performance.
Currently I reside in Malaysia, but do a lot of traveling. I'm hoping to learn more of this new hobby and gain some useful criticism along the way.
Hi I am Pat, living in Ireland. I have been taken photos, mostly landscapes for several years. I ave decided to try flash photography and bought two flashes, yongnuo YN 568ex and 568EX. I own a full frame Nikon and bought an excellent book "understanding flash photography by Bryan Peterson". However the book is based on nikon flashes SB200 where you can dial in the appropriate aperture and read off the "distance to subject" on the flash. Is there a way of doing this on the YN flash
Welcome, Pat. Thanks for joining.
Peterson is certainly regarded as one of the 'gurus' when it comes to using flash. So, at least you've got the right guidance there.
As to your specific question, I'd suggest going to one of the other sections of the forum (perhaps 'Digital Cameras and Equipment') and start up a new thread in which you as that question. More people are likely to see it there than buried in this thread.
Hello! Name is Steve from Ont. Canada. I'm a novice working on intermediate status. A Canon user only because that's what I started with so have to use something compatable with my lenses. Currently shooting with a 6D. Local camera club member. CS6 and Lightroom 4 user with much to learn. Looking forward to participating.
Hello to the group. I'm a retired former printer that have been interested in photography since introduced to it by my father when I was a boy. I had my own darkroom for many years and briefly worked part time for a wedding studio about 25yrs ago. I gave up photography for many years when digital became the the way to go and film was made obsolete. I was annoyed, having spent several thousand dollars (Canadian lol) on film gear over the years and having it rendered obsolete. I got going with it again when I retired and looking for something to occupy my time. I look forward to posting pictures and engaging in friendly discussion about photography.
Hi Alan from Newton Mearns here. Married to the gorgeous Carol, four kids, three cats, three rats and a new Nikon D3300!! Looking to move that dial away from the "AUTO" button and get a little creative. As yet I don't have a particular style of photography that I indulge in but love to experiment with all facets of the art. Looking to find people with a similar interest who can engage in discussions, positive criticism whether good or bad, ideas and advice on the creation of new, interesting and thoughtful images. Looking forward to hearing, discussing and learning from you all in the photographic interweb!!
Hello, Steve ands welcome. I see you're using the correct make of camera, so you can stay!!

Hello Gary. Thank you for deciding to join this forum. Like many of on here, you were in in the 'olden days' of film and then got lost to photography for a while. Good that you're back and I hope you find CiC a useful learning resource.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
Alan - wonderful to have another Scottish-based person on here. There are a few of us.
Hopefully you've already seen that CiC is very much a learning resource and this forum looks to encourage exchanges of knowledge, views and ideas, so that everyone can learn from everyone else. So, ask whatever questions you may have, join in discussion and, of course, post up images.

Thanks for saying hi, still trying to find my way around the site but hopefully will be interacting, learning and joining in fully very soon!!!
Hello everyone. My name is nestor. Been a longtime photographer of all sorts using film, using Canon film line of cameras. Last camera owned was Canon F1N. Stopped photography as a hobby for the past 12 years or so. Just getting back to it. Shopping for a digital Camera and leaning toward Nikon D5300. Trying to figure out what is best for all sorts of still photography as well as video capabilites. USA made or ?. Heard non USA made are a lot cheaper. Shoot mostly Manual. Had used someone else's D90 occasionally.
Hi, my name is John.
I learned the basics of photography in the early 70's in numerous semesters of Photo Journalism at the College of Journalism, University of SC.
I always loved to "shoot" and kept it up with various cameras. About 8 years ago I started to get serious and started doing shows and jurying for galleries.
I am currently a co-owner of Courtyard Gallery on East Bay Street in Charleston, SC.
I started with birds but then slipped into landscapes, seascapes, architectural and international work.
I guess the best way to describe what I do is to invite you to visit j.nickerson-imagery.com.
My personal philosophy on photography is:
It is kind of like sailing, easy to learn how to do it, but then you spend the rest of your life trying to figure out how to do it well".
All the best - j.Nickerson
