    Hi,My name is Nugget.
I have always had an interest in Photography. I'm also a complete novice although I have owned a few good Camera's in my time but never learnt to use them properly.
At the moment I have cheap small Lumix camera but hope to upgrade that later on as I learn from CiC tutorials. I'd liked to get a little more serious and take some Landscape photos in the Australia outback, which I go too every year and play with one of my other hobbies prospecting.

My name is Norrie, I take photos, have done for years, I class myself as a guy who takes photos, not a photographer
My main interest is photographing Glasgow, I have photographed all the old tenements in the older residential areas of Glasgow, I have also taken shots of Glasgow City Centre, I am now taking shots of whats going up and whats coming down in Glasgow
I have donated 6 DVDs to The Mitchell Library Glasgow, working on 3 others. I suppose I am a historian, not a good photographer
I have had several photos published in books and company AGM reports

Hello Nestor and welcome to the forum. By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is. This is a worldwide online community.

As to your question, the 'big two' in the camera world (Nikon and Canon) are Japanese made, as are a significant number of the other big brands.

Anyway, welcome to teh forum. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello John. You are very welcome and I hope you find the CiC forum a useful and enjoyable source of information and exchange.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Norrie - Always delighted to welcome another Scots-based member to the group. And would love to see your images posted up on here.

By the way, If you prefer being addressed as Norrie rather than Norman, you can change your 'real name' in the profile, as most folk tend to refer to and use that when addressing each other.

    Great to have you here.

Hi, I'm Joey. I've been more-or-less obsessed with photography for half a century - since I was a child. Used to process and print my own transparencies and prints both mono and colour, even mixing chemicals from raw chimistry. Now I print my own using an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer. It's rather easier.

Made a lot of poor equipment decisions over the years, committing to a camera system that then disappeared from the market (Exakta, Topcon, Mamiya, Canon FD). Currently committed to Canon crop sensor DSLR and wondering if that's another poor decision - just upgraded to an EOS 7D mkII only to find the pundits reckon Canon's current sensors are well behind the competition regarding low light performance and dynamic range. However my new camera is much better than my last, the EOS 30D. And it takes pictures that please me - so I should perhaps ignore the pundits and get on with taking photos!

Glad to be here, looks like a great site, resource, and community!

Hello, My name is Sheldon Schall from Waunakee, Wisconsin, USA. Recently retired and now having the time to get out and about with my camera. I am beyond the novice category but far from the skilled photographer category. I enjoy wildlife and nature photography; but have been exploring night photography. I just recently upgraded to a Canon 6D full frame. I discovered CiC somewhat by accident and have been very impressed with the educational outreach of CiC. I hope to learn from the CiC "community."

Hello! First thanks for validating my inscription.
Not a professional or professionally connected to photography.
Bought a bridge cause of work, but considering a DSLR. So joined the community to see if I'm able to make the jump.
The lens issue is somewhat confusing when I don't know nothing about the subject.

Best wishes to all of you & a special thanks to the mods.

Oh well, if you've made a mistake, Joey, so have I. Remember - You can get far too caught up in all the nonsense that goes on some online sources. Pretty much every camera out there is capable of taking excellent photographs. Great pictures are made by the person operating the camera. The 7DMkII is getting rave reviews all over the place. I would not doubt for one moment that you have one the best cameras in the world.

You have provided the answer yourself. Get out there and make pictures.

Good yo have you here. I hope you enjoy being part of the CiC forum.

Thank you for your best wishes and welcome to the forum.

One of the best way to improve your knowledge is to ask questions about the subjects you are confused or unsure about. There is no such thing as a dumb question here on CiC. Everyone has to learn and people on here will be very willing to help.

Hello.. My name is Jerry. I have not yet posted to this forum, but I will probably get more active. My camera equipment consists of a Panasonic FZ150 & ZS19 and a Sony A6000. One of my goals is to learn some of the intricacies of post processing.

I like to do some macro photos, as well as wildlife and I do get to travel some where I take lots of shots.

I am looking forward to getting to know this community and sharing ideas and techniques with everyone.

Hello Jerry, and a warm welcome to the forum.

We are all about learning and sharing, so you have come to the right place. There are many enthusiastic (and highly skilled) post processors here, who I know will want to help, so just jump into the Image Post Processing and Printing forum. We have a rule that there are no dumb questions. Having said that there are lots of opinions :-) , so you will likely get a range of views.

    See you around,

    Dave

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

I live in North Shropshire, UK.
After getting my first SLR (Zenit B) back in 1964 I've had quite a few different units over the ensuing years (including my only previous Nikon SLR, a EM in 1980) only to switch to compact travel cameras around five years back when I was travelling a lot and lugging a DSLR around was becoming a pain. Anyhow, my son James (Pro photographer www.dlscape.com) got me interested in getting a new DSLR when we visited him in Queensland in October so I bought a D5300. Nice camera but a pain having to go into the menu for pretty much everything so a couple of weeks back got the D7100. James reckons I should have waited for it's successor, which is rumoured to be 'just around the corner', and for him that would be a good strategy, however, at 66 I ain't waiting for anything!

Hi Eddie...welcome to CiC. Some of us here also just got back to photography after a long hiatus, for different reasons. Me? I was burnt out. But I got back. It is hard to just sit and twiddle your thumbs after a while too. Anyway, as you said you have been reading the forums, you will find that we are such a friendly lot here. You will not be disappointed. Have a gander with us and laugh and share your photos either for comments or critique or both.

Since we are on the chummy factor relating to one another here, we get to know one another through photos and shots and photographs and pictures whatever you will want to refer to them as. At least they got a title. As you may want too, so that we will know what to refer to you as or what to call you when you post. It will help if you go to your profile and fill up your name and where you are from like we all do here...You will get to know most of us if you also look at other post and posters and comment on their shots, serious, funny or otherwise. Tell them what you think. This is a learning community and we all enjoy out photos being criticized and/or commented on.

    Merry Christmas, mate!

Hello - my name is Lesley and I have a Canon D40. My interest is dog showing, and my main camera interest is taking photos at shows, that includes moving shots. Also, a good number of the photos are taken indoors in a variety of bad lighting. I have always been lazy and had my camera set to automatic & it is only lately that I have tried to understand the various settings. Recently I hired a lens for a weekend to try it out and as a result I have it coming as a Xmas present! The lens is a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. I have lots to learn but I am slowly getting to grips with the settings bit by bit.

You've made the first big step in learning - deciding it's time for you to start pushing yourself and moving to take control of your picture-making rather than letting the camera make the decisions. You'll find it frustrating and there will be lots of failures. You'll want to go back to Auto because it just seems easier. But stick with it. It will be worth it.

People on here will always be willing to help. You just need to ask the questions.

The 40D is a brilliant camera. I've just bought a 7DMkII to replace my 40D, but am keeping to 40D as a second body.
