New member posts: April 2014 to June 2020

Hi, my name is Kristy; I live in Washington state. I'm enjoying learning the basics of using my Nikon D3100, and especially enjoy taking pictures of people in their own environments, trying to capture their authentic expressions. I have three kids at home: 4 years, 2 years, and 8 months, so I am fortunate to have three willing (though fast-moving) subjects to practice on. :) I have learned a lot already from the tutorials and forums here on CiC, but I know I've only begun to scratch the surface here. I am excited to start participating... Thanks for such a great source of information, and for the supportive community you all have created here!

My passion is landscape photography, especially waterfalls. I am endeavoring to branch out into other fields of photography, for example, Macro, Portrait, small items, etc as opportunities arise.

I have looked at Cambridge in COLOUR and it is an exceptional community site with great tutorials for photographers to improve their skills.

My name is Steve and I live in the North East of England. I’ve dabbled in photography for about 5 years now. I’m mainly self taught and still learning. I’ve never had much feedback on my images so I thought this may be a good place to get it. My main interest is landscape photography. I’ve been visiting CiC for a while now and I’m glad I’ve finally taken the time to join.

I'm Kat - very amateur photographer, I'm just happiest with a camera in my hands :) I'm crazy shy, but have gotten used to it, although people still like to tell me :p
Love walking where there's no-one else, taking pictures of anything I find interesting, and food. Man i love food. And helping dog rescues. Living in Berlin but from UK - that's about it! :)
Oh yes i would love to meet some other shutterbugs and maybe even go on a 'photo walk', they need to be as weird as me though :D

A great way to learn (it worked well for me) is to submit images for feedback/critique (don't be shy).

To get the most from it, the first post in this thread gives some great advice from one of our repsected members:
How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images

The more you learn now, the far better time you'll have later on with School event shooting, et al.

May I wish you a warm welcome too.

Waterfall shooters seem to fall into two distinct camps; milky or frozen, I wonder which you are? :)
Perhaps we'll see an example soon, eh?

Good luck with the 'branching out', it's a good way to learn, trial and error - and you'll learn more from the errors, I guarantee it, so they're nothing to worry about.

I'm not sure how many Berliners we have here at CiC - perhaps they're all shy :)

We do have a 'resident' dog rescuer in Richard (rpcrowe) here, although he's based in California, plus plenty of animal lovers.

Hi Dave

I'm using a Canon 450D and various prime lenses. I'm looking to upgrade to a 6D maybe when finances allow but the 450d does for now. Thanks for the link. I'll take a look at that and then think about what I'm going to upload.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. I am Ranjan, currently living in Canada. I have been interested in photography since childhood. My first camera was a Kodak box camera and since then have used film (Praktica, Canon, Nikon) and digital (Nikon, Canon, Lumix, Nikon). Mostly self-taught and mostly taking family pictures, vacation pictures all this time. Now-a-days I am trying to learn and shoot pictures as a more serious pursuit (retirement helps!).
