I discovered cambridgeincolour.com earlier this evening while performing a web search to answer a photography related question.
I am a structural geologist collaborating with researchers at the University of Connecticut, scientific photographer and am the co-founder and managing partner of Macroscopic Solutions, LLC.
My work is on the cover and throughout the pages of Better Photography magazine. I will be presenting my work at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in America on March 17th and I am happy to discuss our mutual interest, photography. Thank you for having me, the community looks terrific!

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello! In the past six months, I've picked up my eleven year-old Leica Digilux 2 camera again, and have discovered that black and white photos intrigue me. I've been concentrating on composition more than anything else lately and I am trying to get the best photo straight out of the camera, that I can! And, with that I look forward to constructive criticism as I'm eager to learn and what I have seen on this site so far, ...well, I know I've come to the right, and best place!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi
I'm English but now live in Melbourne (Aus). I've been a lifelong point&shooter.
I've been in to scuba diving for more than 10 years, and somewhere along the way got an underwater camera. It turns out that point&shoot delivers much less usable results under water than it does on land so I gradually started to learn a bit more until I could shoot manually underwater with at least some successes.
Once you understand a bit more you can't put the Genie back in the bottle, so I started attempting to apply what I learned to above-water shots as well. These are mostly landscapes while I'm hiking in the great outdoors.
The arrival of 'mirrorless' cameras (that don't consume half your baggage allowance when placed inside an aluminum underwater housing) allowed me to improve my gear a few notches and continue the journey from happy-snaps to better photographs. I've still got a long way to go, but I'm really impressed by the fantastic quality of the information here in CiC, so I'm sure it will help me along the way.
Cheers
Chris

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
I have a lifelong interest in photography, nagged my parents into my first camera at the age of ten, but lacking in practice due to work, child rearing etc. Now recently retired, and looking forward to upgrading my very basic skills, especially Lightroom and Photoshop. Based in mid-western NSW Australia. As well as 'ordinary' photography, my husband and I do astroimaging using specialised equipment. One thing I'd like to find out about is more on the mirrorless camera debate. Sony A7 verses full-frame DSLR such as D810. I'd love to know how to find more on that topic if Donald or others can point me in the right direction.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone. I joined community yesterday and thought it only polite to introduce myself.
When I'm not working (which appears to be much of the time of late!) my main interest is photography. This is a relatively new hobbie, although I did dable back in my late teens, which was sparked of by trying to get some shots of the Under 18s Football Club my company sponsor. The local paper requested an 'action shot' to go with one of the match reports we write and the paper publish each week. After two attempts using my iphone - a method I now know had very little chance of succeeding - I started using my eldest daughter's Finepix S100SF which she had hardly touched for the last two years. And that was it...I was bitten by the bug. Although the vast majority of the images to date have been really awful, I'm thoroughly enjoying the learning process and feel that it is only a matter of time until I create a shot which is at least half decent. Action photography, and in particualar sports photography, appear to be the way I am interest is heading at this time.
Anyway, we're off to another away game today so if I manage to capture a shot that is worth keeping I'll post it on the forum (as long as I can find the correct place to upload it!) and would be greatful for any feedback I can get.
Regards
David

Welcome, Trish. It's great to have you here. Thanks for joining. I hope CiC can be a source of inspiration as well as information.
The best way to get the answers to questions that you have is to just ask. So, on that issue or mirrorless cameras, why not go to the Digital Cameras and Equipment section of the forum and start up a new thread, asking what it is you want answers to.

And that is what it's all about - Striving to learn and improve. If you ever fell you've no need to learn any more, that's the time to stop and try something else.

Sarah - It's a delight to welcome you to the forum. Hopefully you've already seen that the bias is very much towards learning, with people being encouraged to ask questions and those with more knowledge and experience being encouraged to share that.
So, I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and find it useful.

Hello and welcome. There are quite a few of us on here who fall in to that category, me being one of them. So, it's great to have you here and I hope you enjoy it, as well as finding it useful.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Hello. Thanks for joining the CiC forum.
On that question - Why not post it up as a question in, perhaps, the Nature & Architecture section of the forum. That way more people are likely to see it and be able to respond.
