    Hello,
Looking forward to being part of the community. Came looking for tutorials and things to improve my photography. But after looking around seems to be much more than that.

    Regards,
    Peter

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

I got my first plasticky camera with one little lens when I was around 10 or 11. My parents encouraged me and paid for the film and development for a long long time.
I had no real interest in taking family or 'standard' type pics, but rather sought out visually intriguing sights. Good arts and science education followed, I graduated to an Agfa box camera, then my first 6 x 6 camera with a real lens and shutter, various Prakticas, the OM 2, and when its shutter gave out, to Nikons, F 100, to Contax G, Rollei, pinhole, .. I have used around 14 cameras throughout my life. I switched to digital only 3 years ago.

I had looked at various tutorials here at that time and I rediscovered this url last night. I looked at many posts here and liked the flavor and comments and struggles as they showed themselves. So I joined.

Photographically, I am best when I can wander around and am calm enough to see images. These I take and after several months I can value and grade them into good, bad and ugly much more easily. I never 'chimp'.

Currently I wonder about the need for 'titles', 'data', 'explanations' when showing images.
Earlier yesterday I walked into a gallery room and was happy to see so many good pictures (painted, woven, photographed...) that I became joyful. When I walked out I noticed the TITLE of the exhibition: 'Geometry'. Looking back inside, I was stunned how little I liked the selected works now: there was actually little geometric about most of the items. And quite unwillingly, I began to dislike the selection, the whole. But the exhibits were still the same. Weird.

So I will try to go title-less, detail-less now when I post. Maybe that will pass. I cannot tell.

I travel a lot, professionally, to family and on my own interests. I have visited many Museums around the world, many art shows, galleries. I read various photography periodicals, I have once taught photography.

And next I shall try to start a new thread with 3 images. How to upload them will be my afternoon's challenge.

    Frank

    Hi,
I am MihaelaS, I live in Toronto, Canada. I am retired now and for many years I used to paint a variety of subjects and trying different styles, but my medium of choice were oil colors. I stopped painting for some time now, but I miss "playing" with the colors. I have an older Canon PowerShot S5 IS which is in excellent condition. I used to take picture since I was a child, at that time all my shots were b/w, but I am just an amateur in taking photographs. I am willing to learn as much as possible from all of you, members of this Forum! Thank you for the opportunity!

I hope so, Peter. But at the core it's all about learning. And I hope it continues as a resource where people will always want to help others push their knowledge and skill as far as is possible for them.

Great to have you here. Thanks for joining.

That's a very good point, Frank. It's a debate that arises from time-to-time and I suspect there will always be divided opinion. But it's good to be aware. That's how we learn.

You certainly managed to get the images into this post. And very impressive they are. Bold, imaginmative compositions. To start a new thread, just go to the section of the forum in which you want to post (e.g. Nature & Architecture) and hit that tab up near the top left that says something like 'Start New Thread'.

Anyway, welcome to the CiC forum.

Why not take a few minutes to briefly introduce yourself as a new member, but please do not post images for comment in this thread - it's just for introductions. You are welcome to post one image to demonstrate your photography style.

It can be confusing joining a new forum. The following information may help you in getting established here. We know you want to get started, but reading this will help you get started properly.

CONDUCT - The general emphasis here is on support and learning. To do that, we often give detailed criticism on shots, where people have asked for it. We always try to do that in a fair, polite, and balanced manner. We also have a lot of fun on here, making humorous comments with one another. But again, it's nearly always done in a friendly manner, softened with the use of smilies.

However, the Admin/Mod group monitor all activity on this site, and any inappropriate comment will be removed or edited. We urge all new members to read the Code of Conduct FAQ.

TUTORIALS - Try our famous tutorials, especially if you have a specific or general technical question. See the menu at the top of the page.

POSTING - Just start a new thread to ask a new question/start a discussion/post your images, but please give some thought to starting it in the correct section. Or just reply to existing threads to join in with a discussion that is in progress. If you are doubtful about posting your work, then please read this How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images The FAQ (on menu above) will give you general assistance if you have difficulty FAQ forum usage

Still stuck? Don't worry, just send a PM (Personal Message) to one of the Admin/Mods. You can find them here Mods To get to this list normally, select 'quick links/view forum Moderators'. Hello,
My name is Chris and I live in WI. I have been gaining experience with my camera and am really interested in bird photography. I still have a lot to learn, so am excited to be part of this forum. From what I have read it is very informative.
Still working on mastering the ISO/apeture/shutter triangle. The more I read, the more questions pop up. lol

    Hi Chris and welcome,

There are some excellent bird photographers round here who are always ready to share their techniques, so whatever questions you have just jump in and ask them. We have a rule that there are NO dumb questions.

This is a rather international forum, so those from this side of the pond have to think where WI might be. I assume it's Wisconsin and not the West Indies

Look forward to hearing more from you

    Dave

Hello everyone! My name is Charlie Hawkins, and I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico USA. I've recently rekindled an interest more "serious" photography, after years of using point & shoot's or transition cameras (e.g., Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47, great for travel). I'm the proud owner of a new Canon 70D, with 18-135mm kit lens, plus a 10-20 mm and an 85mm/1.8 lens...for now. I love to shoot candid and posed portraits (non-studio), landscapes, flowers and animals. My grandkids are my favorite subject. Look forward to chats and sharing photos.

Hello, my name is Sam and photography has been my hobby for many years. I was happy to find the Cambridge in Colour site. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible. I shoot using Nikon, but don't really think that the camera brand makes much difference as long as you understanding the camera's strengths and limitations. I believe that the most important thing is knowing how to use the equipment to achieve your creative vision.

    Hi everybody,
it is completely new for me to write in a forum. So I hope this post works correctly. I live in Austria and usually take fotos when I am on extented vaccations. Landscapes and nature, less portraits. I use a Canon 50D with a cheap lens since about seven years, before a Canon A95 and cheap pocket cameras. I would love to share some photos and improve my skills and knowledge about photography. I enjoy playing around with picture-software too, but the results are mostly random.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi,

I am Ratnesh and I am currently living in Bahrain. I have recently started photography (8-9 months back) and am very much interested to improve my skills as I still seem to get confused on changing my ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed to capture the perfect shot. I still get a lot of vibrations in my picture which often makes me sad to look at.

I had joined an expat group called Internations when in Mexico and continued it in Bahrain. When I purchased my camera (Nikon D5300; AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II; AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED and AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8), I joined the Photography group as I had no idea on how to operate a DSLR camera. I must admit that I have learned a lot as an amateur, but I still have a lot to learn. I am also currently struggling to understand the different types of Wide Angle Lens and how do they make a difference.

The person who leads the group and who taught me a lot (Mr. Mahesh A Rao) suggested me to join this community and suggested that I can learn a lot from the website as well as from the discussions with experts on this forum.

Hence, here I am, seeking the help of this website and your expertise. I have also bought and joined the Stunning Photography Group led by Tony Northrup for comments on how the pictures I have clicked looks. The only feedback that I got from them were on how to improve my editing skills, but I feel that it's the last chapter in the book as I have to first learn on how to perfect my skills.

Hope to further interact with you guys in detail and looking forward to learn. I have a flickr account, but have uploaded only one of the albums there.
You can get in touch with me on there (ratneshkansal) or on Facebook (Ratnesh Kansal).
