Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi my name is Edward and I live in Perth, Ontario, Canada. Years ago photography was a hobby of mine and I got away from it. Over the last year or two I've gotten back into it on a semi-serious level. I find there is so much to learn in so many areas. I feel I will benefit greatly from joining this group. I have mainly been taking pictures of flowers and plants trying to improve on my composition, depth of field, detail and lighting. I truly enjoy the macro aspect of photography, such an interesting little world out there.

There are quite a few of us on here, Edward, who fall into that category. So, you're amongst friends!! Great to have you here.

I have to confess my ignorance and say that I didn't know there was a 'Perth' in Ontario. I live just outside the Scottish one, after which your one may have been named.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi everyone!
I am new to the forum but have been using this website for several month to (hopefully) improve my photography :) Photography has been an interest of mine since high school but has become a passion over the past year when I too the plunge and bought my first Nikon.
I would love some feedback on my pics and if anyone has any experience with NYIP classes, is it worth the $$$?
Here are two of my pictures.... I am on Flickr as Gretchen Edwards.

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Gretchen,
Welcome to CiC - pleased that you have decided to join, and well done on taking the plunge and entering a mini comp.
If you want feedback on your pictures, then it is much better to post them in one of the main forums (in this case, Nature and Architecture), and ask for feedback there. Here are some hints: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/fo...hread18409.htm
It's also much better if you post the pictures so that they can be viewed in the thread (as you did in your competition entry), rather than just the links.
However, I did have a look at the pictures, and the first thing that strikes me are focus problems. I really can't find the point of focus in the flowers, and only part of the alligator is in focus - the snout is way off. Posting onto to Flickr has stripped out the Exif, so I can't see what settings you used. Do you know?

I certainly don't know. Not all that many members read this bit of the forum. I'm sure that if you post the question in "General Photography Discussion" you'll get some feedback.
If you could update your profile to include Gretchen as your "real name" and whereabouts you are in the world, that would be great. As well as being interesting, knowing where you are can be helpful when offering advice.
Best regards, and look forward to hearing more from you,
Dave

Hi I'm Garrett.
I'm from the U.S. I have been a photography enthusiast for 30 years but now I want to get more serious with my hobby. I have Nikon equipment. I am very impressed with the tutorials on this site and the level of detail in the descriptions. Looking forward to posting some photos for comments to help me grow as a photographer. The majority of my photos are landscapes and wildlife, but I'm trying everything right now to learn new techniques.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone,
This is my first time being apart of a forum as a photographer. I'm excited to learn from this webpage and to grow in my photography and possibly share my knowledge as well.
Cheers,
Roxy

Garret, it's great to have you here. I hope you find the forum as useful as the tutorials. I hope you find that it's a good bunch of folks on here who are always willing to share knowledge and experience, so that we can all learn together.

Roxy - Thank you for choosing this forum as your first dip into being part of an online photography community. I hope you find it useful and fun.
If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
If you'd rather be addressed as Roxy instead of Roxanne, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi there,
I'm Mike and live in the Low Lands, Holland or the Netherlands :). Photography is an excuse to wander around, looking and stopping to enjoy nature's or man-made wonders. Or maybe that is the other way around: wander around to make photos.
Got the basics down, but know that there is plenty still to learn. Not sure how active I will be posting (this is my first Forum post EVER) since there are way more knowledgeable people here, but I know I will lots from you all.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Dave,
Thank you very much for your feedback on the two pictures I posted and the advice on utilizing this website! Looking again at them, I completely agree. Any and all feedback is welcome! I am still rather new to my camera and it's capabilities. I love photography and want to get better as quickly as possible. I enjoy photographing nature and my family, specifically my children. I love capturing their expressions.
The settings I used for the other pictures are as follows:
Alligator- Nikon D5200 AFS VR Nikkor 55-300mm ISO 640 220mm 0ev f 5.3 1/1000
Flowers- Nikon D5200 Nikkor 18-55mm ISO 100 55mm 1ev f 8 1/400
Thoughts? Also, any recommendations on the picture I used in the mini competition?
I'll post some more pictures in the main forum!
Thank you,
Gretchen

Hi I'm Steph, currently living and working in London. I've been a big fan of the tutorials on this site for a while - I've had so many more "aha" moments than with other resources.
I have an X-E1 with 18-55mm that I'm still learning how to use after upgrading from a Canon SX20 two years ago. Been a bit lazy with the camera this year, but I have some exciting travel plans coming up so need to put some time and effort in over the next few months.

Hi Mike, and welcome. We are honoured that you have chosen CiC to start your forum career! Sure there are some very good photographers here, and lots of learners to. Best way to learn, I think, is to pitch in, post an image or two and ask for C&C - if possible say what you think the picture needs.
See you around,
Dave

Hi Steph, and I'm glad you have decided to take the plunge and join the forum. I'm sure that you have seen this is a friendly place, and we are (almost!) always polite to each other. Yes - you'll have to get that camera working. What are your travel plans?
See you around,
Dave

Hello Yogs. Looks like you probably have as much, if not more, experience than m ost folk on here, so it will be indeed good if you are able to share that.
Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy being involved.
