Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi, I'm Sammy from London.
I've never actually used a forum before but I'm hoping it will help me in my photography journey. I'm getting a little overwhelmed by all the info out there in interweb-land, I can never seem to find the answers to my questions (which are usually quite simple!) so I'm hoping a friendly chat with the guys here will be a source of support.
I've enjoyed the tutorials on here which are very straightforward and easy to understand.
I have a Canon EOS60D and would like to start you using my flash more (Canon 600EX) but I really know what I'm doing!

Sammy - First of all, it's great to have you here. Thank you for choosing this forum f0r your first time engaging online with fellow enthusiasts.
You're right - it can be bewildering trying to sort out all the information that is out there. Some of it is great. Some of it is rubbish. One of the things that's kept me involved in this forum is the genuine wish on the part of so many people to be supportive and to help others learn and improve their knowledge and skills. And remember - the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
I am an enthusiastic photographer. Have been fondly engaged in photography for many years. My love with camera started with Yashika (a 35 mm Film Camera), around 20 years back. Over the decades I have transitioned through various cameras and packed many memories.
However, my interests have been invigorated for the past 3 years, dominantly because of technology and advent of DSLRs. Bird photography entices me a lot and my favorite genre. Off late, have been visiting village towns and lakes and dams in and around Karnataka, India. Now I want to extend this beyond local and more into mother nature. My equipment is dominantly, Nikon base (D5100), couple of prime lenses, and Tele (Nikon 70-300) & Super Telephoto Lenses (TAMRON 150-600 SP USD DI).
I am excited to be here at CiC to learn many more things and contribute with good images that make other members happy and memorable.
Cheers!!
Mohan

Hi, my name is Brian and at present live in South Wales. We will be moving to British Columbia (Nelson) early next year to join mw Son, his wife and young Grandson. I have always been interested in photography and spent many happy hours in darkrooms developing and printing black & white stuff. As I was in the RAF for 22 years I travelled about quite a bit, Malta, Cyprus and Germany (Berlin). At present my gear consists of Nikon (D90, F75, 18-70, 55-300, 50 1.8D, SB-600 Speedlight). I have just bought a Marumi (DHG) Super CPL filter and am looking forward to trying it out. Anyway, this seems to be quite a friendly forum so expect a few questions as, although I have been doing photography for yonks I still consider myself as a newby. I would probably be better off if I still had my old Kodak Retinette 1B and some yellow and green filters. Those were the days.
Brian

Just fire away with the questions, Brian. That's one of the best ways of learning.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and will keep up your involvement once you go across the pond.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Mat here from sunny Manchester in England. Sorry about the "sunny" bit, irony is a prerequisite for living here. I stumbled across CiC by accident when I was searching for something else, although I can't really remember what that was now. I've taken photographs for quite a long time now, about 37 years, but despite the equipment, Nikon FE, F3 and lenses from 28mm to 200mm Nikkor and 600mm Sigma, never really taken the time to find out what I was doing right.....or more usully, wrong. I lurched into the digital age with a Lumix Bridge camera a few years ago before buying a D7000.
One of the reasons for buying that body was the larger than usual "Kit" lens, 18-105mm, but the other was that I could use all my old AI Nikkor lenses as well. This meant that I didn't have to try and sell them all and buy new. There are obvious limitations with the 200mm as it effectively seems to become a 300mm with that body along with the attendant camera shake. So, one of my ideas is to take more time over photography and use a tripod more often.
Somewhere inside me is a reluctance to muck around too much with the image that I've taken, so haven't even looked at Photoshop or similar but limit my tampering to Windows on the laptop. Hopefully I can start to learn more from other users on here and any tutorials that I come across.
I don't have any particular favourite types of photography but if I have my camera I just tend to take what takes my fancy, be it Correyvrecken whirlpool or a Vulcan bomber I saw recently.
Oh, one other thing, I tend to waffle on a fair bit, so start the way I go on is my motto

Delighted that you did, Mat. Welcome. I hope you enjoy being part of this online community and that you find it useful. Might even be able to work on that feeling about post-processing to convince you that it's not about tampering with your captured image, but about bringing the best out in it !
Anyway, good to have you here.

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello Mbinga, and a very warm welcome to our community. This is a friendly place, where we all learn and share together. We don't have many members from East Africa, so you are especially welcome. What part of Kenya are you from, and is there a particular style of photography that interests you?
It would be good if you updated your profile so that your name and location appear alongside all of your posts - as you can see with mine.
I look forward to hearing more from you,
Best wishes,
Dave

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Good morning.
This is my first post here after following a link from the Olympus UK E-System User Group where I am an active contributor. I've been a keen amateur photographer since my late teens and have owned a variety of cameras over the years. I now own an Olympus OM-D EM-1 after upgrading through every major model updates starting with the Olympus E-500, my first DSLR bought back in 2006. I take my camera everywhere with me and I suppose land & seascapes and architecture are my favourite subjects along with some special effects; smoky waterfalls for instance. Living on the Staffordshire-Derbyshire border I have easy access to the beautiful Peak District and surrounding areas where photo opportunities are many and varied.
Anyway I'm here to look and learn and hopefully to contribute to the forum. Thank you for having me.
