And it's nice to meet you. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

The culture of CiC is very much the same and that bit about helping others is still what it's very much about. Great to see you back.

How true that is, Ed. It's those who believe that learning never stops that will, I believe, be the most successful.
It's a pleasure to welcome you to the forum. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello Kathy. Thank you for choosing to join CiC.
The one thing I hope you always find with this forum, is that there is no such thing as a dumb question. People on here remember that they were once just starting to learn as well. Anyone who criticises someone for not knowing something is pretty quickly told that, on here, we don't do that.
So, please do join in - asking questions, posting images.
If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.

Hi everybody at CIC, Im Devonion and as it shows I live in North Devon. Im a lapsed photographer returning after retirement, the passion is still there. I focus mostly on Landscapes and Seascapes as this region is rich in beautiful views however I like to grab portraits when the opportunity presents, mostly by a nod to the person before waiting for a picture I like. Im a Nikon user and now have retired my old F90x for an old D700 as most of my lens' will work. I hope to pick up Skills as I like your web site tutorials.

Hi everyone.
I'm a new member and would appreciate any ideas on my photo of a disused dry dock at Cockatoo Island, Sydney.

Great to have you here, Mike. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and do indeed find it useful. I hope what you'll find is that the forum complements the tutorials by being home to a lot of people who are only too willing to share knowledge and experience, answer questions and discuss all sorts of photographic issues.

Welcome, Ken. Thanks for signing up to the forum.
From what you wrote, I think you must have tried to put a picture into your post. If need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
Also, if you're asking fro comments on a picture, the two areas of the forum for that are 1) Nature & Architecture and, 2) People & Pets. Not that you can't post anywhere else, but more people will see it there given that that is where we post when we want5 folks to comment.

Hi all!
I'm quite glad I stumbled upon this forum. I have the Canon 650D and am looking to make a major upgrade to a full frame camera (hopefully this Black Friday if the deals are great). I only see superlatives in describing the 5DSR. And zeros when I look up the price. :-) With a new camera, I am looking for a general purpose lens (Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM Lens, perhaps? OR the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon?). I've shot a few weddings, concerts and family events but
largely do portrait, landscape/cityscape and wildlife photography.

A question - Why do you want a full-frame camera? It's a question we sometimes don't stop and think enough about when we decide that's what we want/need? So many people think it's the answer to everything, when it's not. You speak about the 5DSR. You need to remember that's a highly specialised bit of kit. For example, I have a 5DS and I don't think I will ever shoot hand-held with it. It needs to be on a tripod an absolutely rock-steady. Even more so with the 5DSR. Maybe hang around for a while. Everyone is expecting the 5DIV to be announced anytime soon.
So, sure go for full frame. But be very clear about why you need it and what sort of photography you're going to be doing.

Thanks Donald, I am having trouble posting a thread. I don't seem to have ( or more likely find) the post new thread button! Any advice?
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
It's hiding in plain sight!
It's a big blue button at the top left (and bottom left) when you are "in" one of the forums. You're not the first to miss it.
Welcome on board,
Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Awesome, cheers Dave. I was not drilling down far enough. Duh
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi I am Richard and have just joined and look forward to meeting like minded people with a common purpose. I have been interested in Photograph for some 10 years now and still have a lot to learn. Coming onto this site may just do that. Look forward to speaking to you.

Hi,I am a recently retired engineer with a passion for photography and rugby. I have been able to combine these by becoming the photographer for the local rugby club and then going on to the next level of rugby here in Australia, the National Rugby Championship. Outside of this I play some golf and babysit our grandchildren.
I am a Canon shooter with 450D (my initial DSLR), 50D &7D. Several lens including 70-200 f/4L & 300 f/4L IS.

Welcome, Richard. A pleasure to have you on board.
I think one of the important things and something that this forum certainly holds to, is that we never stop learning. If we think we have then it's time to give up.
So I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that you do indeed find it useful.

Oh well, that last bit excuses you for what you did to us in the Rugby World Cup!!
Hi, Malcolm. Great to have you here.
That fact that you're 'on the inside' for photographing at major rugby matches is wonderful. I hope you'll post up lots of images either in the competitions or inviting others to comment. I hope you enjoy being part of this forum.
