Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone,
I just joined, so I think this should be the first place I post.
This forum was recommended to me as a place where pictures still matter and the rhetoric was friendly!
I'm an amateur photog, nothing special! But always enjoy seeing the work of others and being part of a community!
Well I won't prattle on any further (for now ;))
Cheers
Adam

Thanks very much Donald,
You'll all see some of my images, I'm quite prolific, and I don't necessarily mean that in a positive way!! :D
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all, new member here and looking forward to picking up some tips and hunting for advice from fellow photographers.
In my late teens I was keen on photography and had a Canon T70 with all the bits and pieces, but then family life took over and for the next twenty odd years I rarely took a photo, that was until my son started playing rugby about 12 years ago. I then got the bug. I started with a couple of compacts but soon progressed to a Canon EOS 400D.
Anyway, a couple of years ago my good lady wife bought me an EOS 7D, and then a 70-200mm f/4 IS L series lens, and has since bought me a 10-22mm and a 24-105mm L series, plus I have a 1.8 50mm but if I'm being honest I rarely use it. I use the other 3 lenses a lot especially as we go on a lot of great holidays and I take loads of photos just for the memories. I also have a Yongnuo 568EX flash but hardly take photos with flash.
I don't spend very much time editing photos, I just like the aesthetics of them and love to look back and trace where we've been, particularly on hikes where it brings back so many memories of where we went and what we experienced.
So now the next steps, I have recently done some basic still life, and last week did some photos using the flash unit, and I am about to purchase a decent quality tripod to replace the relatively cheap one I currently have. Therefore, here to pick up some tips.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone,
I am a recent retiree located in western Canada, and have taken up the hobby of digital photography. I have a bit of experience, accumulated over over the years, from b&w film in the 1960's, developing film and prints in my own makeshift darkroom, to the latest digital darkroom software i.e. Photoshop 6 and Photo Director. I am basically self taught, and would like to converse / learn from other hobby photographers. I was very impressed with this website, and the learning modules.
Regards
Henrik

Well, I hope that very soon you feel you've landed in the right place.
There's no such thing as a dumb question on CiC and I think you'll find there will always be people ready and willing to share knowledge and advice so thyat we can all learn from each other. That's what this forum's about.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello, Henrick and welcome to the CiC forum. I hope you enjoy being part of it and find it useful.
There are quite a few of us on here who have made the transition from darkrooms and chemicals to the wonders of the digital age. And I hope you find that there will always be people on here very happy to share thoughts, ideas and knowledge. You also join quite a number of Canadian members of the forum.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks Donald,
I hope to round out my knowledge as I have all this extra time now, being retired. I am quite impressed with the quality of this website, both from a content quality and website technical quality perspective. Are you involved with the development of the website? Kudo's to the developers!
Henrik

No, that is all in the hands of and thanks to, the site's founder, Sean McHugh (Username - McQ).
Sean started the site whilst studying at Cambridge University in England, hence the name and particularly the British English spelling of colour. He's now back home in Cailfornia and works there.
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi,
I have never joined or posted to a forum before, although I have read many of them on various sites. I was most impressed by the quality and impartiality of the tutorials on this site, hence the reason for joining.
I have owned a camera for over 30 years and owned a digital compact for the last twelve or so. I have owned a CSC for the last couple of years but only in recent months decided to try to master it.
Regards
John

Well, John, it is a honour that you have chosen this one to be your first. Thank you.
I think we all like the forum for the very reasons that you state. It is complementary to the tutorials and the hope is that they carry on where the tutorials leave off in terms of people being able to share real life knowledge and experience. So, as well as hopefully gaining and improving, I hope you will also be giving, in terms of you sharing your experience with others perhaps just starting out on the photographic journey.
Welcome aboard!
Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi there -- I'm Bryan. I am a relatively novice photographer in the US. The cambridge in colour tutorials have helped me learn a lot about my craft, and now that I am having color management issues, I came to read up on all that. True to form, they were the best tutorials I have seen on the internet and I have a much better grasp on how it all works. However, I'm still having problems, so I am joining so that I can seek help from the member base in deciphering my issues (which I will detail in a new thread).
Thanks!
Bryan

Bryan - I see you haver posted your thread setting out your color management issues. I hope you manage to deal with all these questions.
But let me use this thread to welcome you to the forum. I hope you find it as useful as the tutorials.

Hello, Kareem. Welcome to the CiC forum. I hope you find it both enjoyable and useful.
If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
Something else you might find useful. Sometimes people are not sure about asking for comments and criticism on their images. This thread gives you some helpful advice and guidance about how to get the best feedback from fellow members.

Daniel - Great to have you here. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and that you find it helpful. On here you'll find a whole lot of folk who are very happy to share knowledge and experience so that we can all learn together. The folks who like to join forums to boast about how wonderful they are and what wonderful gear they have, without that spirit of sharing, are not really the types who will enjoy this forum.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello; I am a new member. This site looks like it has a lot of valuable information, so glad I found it. I am a novice, and recently purchased D7100. I like to shoot variety of photos; landscape, street, people. I am trying to learn as much as I can; spend a lot of time at DP Review. Again, glad I found it.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
