Hello. Ben from Connecticut, USA here. I found CiC from the Tutorials page. I got my first DSLR a couple years ago, but I've been doing film for close to 40 yrs. Like all good amateurs, I collect equipment, and mostly take family snapshots, but I can dream of becoming Ansel Adams, can't I? I just got a Canon 6d to get back to "full frame" and I've set myself a project to visit all the state parks and forests in CT (no time limi to complete, though...) so I plan on offering landscapes for C&C (but not just yet). PP is a challenge for me because I'm red/green color blind, so I try to get it right in the camera. I look forward to some unbiased feedback. Thanks for offering this site.

    No, that's my dream!!

Hello Ben and a very warm welcome to the CiC forum. Thanks for joining. I hope you enjoy being involved and find it useful.

I've got a red/green colour shift as well. Sometimes wonder if that's what pushed me towards liking B & W. But there are many very, very good photographers out there who manage a colour blindness without any problem.

If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

I hope you enjoy being part of this forum

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi, I live in Maine, just found this site browsing for info on lens and filters. Looks like a great site ! I've been learning photography and Photoshop for the past few years with friends. I use a Nikon D5100. While I try to get the best shot I can with my camera, I am just as happy to be able to achieve my end result with Photoshop. I also enjoy using Apothysis and combing my designs with my photography in Photoshop. I scuba dive and take underwater photos, but not with my Nikon. I don't want to risk it being damaged in a flooded housing. I just use a point and shoot underwater. Photoshop helps me to adjust for the blue of the water and darkness the deeper I am. Also, I only recently have gotten into Snowy Owls and fox photos. That pretty much describes the photographer in me.
. . . looking forward to continuing my learning and growing here.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi to all Cambridge in Colour members world wide, I am one of your newest members and I thought I would just like to introduce myself and give you a little information about myself.

We emigrated to Canada 33 years ago from Yorkshire in England, and now live in Niagara on the Lake, in Canada, which I must admit, is a photographers paradise if you are interested in landscape photography.

Photography is just one of my hobbies, so I have to admit to not spending as much time as I would like, indulging myself in this wonderful hobby. I took up photography just before we left England, but my passion for he hobby has really only intensified over the last couple of years.

I would say that I have a reasonably good understanding of the basic photographic skill sets used by most basic amateur photographers, but I do lack in the finer skill sets and techniques used by professionals and advanced amateurs. I use a Canon 5D MK II, and I am in the process of building up an arsenal of quality lenses. I currently own a couple of L series lenses, namely the 16-35mm wide angel zoom and the 24-105mm mid range zoom, plus I also own an EF 70-300 (non L series) lens.

In addition to a general love of photography (if it moves, shoot it, even if it doesn't move, shoot it) I enjoy landscape photography, plus I have a budding desire to get into Bird/Wildlife photography. with this in mind, I recently ordered the new Tamron 150-600mm zoom, which is taking much longer to arrive than I would like (seven weeks and counting).

I play around with basic post processing, but really need to upgrade my P.P. skills. Problem is, I’m getting to the age where my capacity for learning new tricks is some what limited, so I anticipate that my future in the field of post processing will be limited, even though I own PS CS5, lightroom and Aperture. I will probably continue to utilize the very basics of these programs, without taking full advantage of their true capabilities.

That's a quick info download on my background. I can tell you that I'm looking forward to reading the posts in this forum, as well as learning from what I'm sure is a wealth of knowledge and experience within the membership of this forum.

    Regards

    John

Whoever that was, I'm glad they introduced you to CiC Bob, and that you decided to join the forum. I hope you enjoy being involved.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Michael - I hope that CiC proves to be an online resource that helps you reach that goal. It is very much an online learning resource and as well as the tutorials (which consistently receive high praise), this forum is a place where people share knowledge, ideas and information. Unlike some forums where experienced photographers seem to look down on people who are just starting learning or who are less experienced, people on here remember that they too were once just at the beginning of the learning curve. There is no such thing a as dumb question here on CiC.

So, great to have you here and I hope you enjoy it.

Never! Don't believe it, John. Hopefully being part of this forum will re-ignite the desire for learning and once you get a better understanding of the sort of post-processing that people on here do and which is easily within your grasp, you'll want to go for it.

It's great to have you here and I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

Hi, my name is Brenda, I am a retired, married English lady and have lived in Spain for 9 years. I have been learning photography more seriously for 2 years now, the first with a bridge camera and the second with Nikon D7000. I have the Nikon 18-105mm lens, the 70-300, and the 105mm Macro and a Sigma 150-500mm. The macro and the Sigma are new acquisitions which I am familiarising myself with. Birding has been my main interest but now I am struggling with Macro as well and I am looking forward to participating in and learning from this group.

    John,

Welcome to the group. This link might be of use to you. If you are already up to speed on your bird identification then I might be able to use you as an additional resource.

Thanks John, I will check it out. I have been attempting to capture birds with my 300mm without much success. Hopefully the new lens will help, if it ever arrives.

    Cheers

    John
