Hi everyone, I found the forum when searching for a tutorial on photo stacking, liked what I found here so joined. I have meddled with photography for some years, mainly film, but now retired and for the last few years trying to get to grips with digital. I look forward to joining in. John.

Hello. I am Francisco Fernandes, from Teresina, Brazil. I work as a programmer and also as a freelancer 3d generalist. I aquired my first DSLR recently and I am whiling to learn proper photography. The first time I found the forum was when I was studying computer vision and needed some guidance on digital sensors and I really liked the tutorials. They are very easy to follow. Hopefully, I'll be posting questions soon enough.

Hello from Edmonton, Canada. For too many years to count I have more or less played around with cameras of one kind or another. My foray into digital began with a Canon Rebel XT and continued to the old Canon 20D which I still use. I enjoy most using the non-creative settings and manual lenses. Most being the old Takumar thread mount types. But I am very much an amateur looking to gain better insight into the art.

Just recently I picked up a Nikon D5100 with a Sony 18-200 lens as a walk-around camera.

Look forward to reading through this forum and the many wonderful on-site instructions.

Hello everyone,

I am an ex-RAF serviceman based in Cambridgeshire, UK, and I am really looking forward to chatting with you all in the weeks, months and years to come about my favourite pursuit, PHOTOGRAPHY.

Just moved up a notch, in terms of equipment anyway. I spent several years learning on the venerable FUJI HS20 EXR, which was a great bridge camera, but one that I grew out of.
My weapon of choice now is my new Nikon D7100. I have teamed this up with a Sigma 30mm f1.4, Tamron 24-70mm f2.8, and a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6.
My favourite type of image is low key strobe, and my pair of Yongnuo YN-560III with a YN-560TX light the way for me on that level.
I have learned so much from this site already, and hope to learn even more from you guys. I hope I can help in return with any knowledge I have gained over the years.

Although I use my mobile's camera, I am a completely novice to cameras; I found your beautiful site a couple of days ago while searching for some advice about what type of camera i should buy, and since then i have discovered a completely new yet amazing world.
I have always liked photographing beautiful landscapes and I am planning to buy an SLR when i can afford it.
Until then i practice with my brother's Sony DSC H50!
I know i will learn some really nice things with you here and i want to help others when i have the chance.

Your written English is very good. You write English better than many people whose native language is English!

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the forum. Photography is an activity that can, of course, tempt people to spend a great deal of money. But the important thing to remember is that great pictures are made by people, not equipment. Learning and practice are much more important that the camera you own. More expensive cameras allow you to do more things in different ways, but they do not make a person more able to produce great pictures.

Year two of the project to try and take a (decent) photograph! I am using a Canon 700D with a Tamron 18-270.

Thought I liked colour, and it turns out I do, mainly black & white!(is that 2 colours?)

Like to travel so you know what to see some time!

I've been using this site for a while, finally decided to engage a bit more in the community part of CiC. I've returned to serious photography in the last 2 1/2 years.
My interests are pretty general -- macro, nature, street. Oh, and grand-kids, too!
I shoot with Sony A-mount cameras with Sony, Minolta, and Tamron lenses.
