Hello to everyone. My name is Colin and I live in Sussex, England. I have always enjoyed photography and, now that I have retired, I hope to have the time to improve my skills. I would like to get into wedding photography but don't feel ready to call myself a wedding photographer yet. I have done two weddings so far and have two more booked for next year. I am not charging for any of these, as they are/were the weddings of friends and family. I am still learning and I do make the odd mistake, e.g. not noticing that someone had blinked, or perhaps not getting the exposure quite right on one or two shots. However, each bride and groom has been very pleased with my work. I will end my introduction with a confession ~ I still don't know what makes a good photograph a great photograph!

Hello, Steve. Great to have you here ... although those going over to the dark side will have to be monitored carefully!

Hopefully you've seen enough of the forum so far to know that it is very much a learning resource where any and all sorts of photography-related questions are welcome. There is no such thing as a dumb question on here. You can be certain that if you have a question, then there are lots of people lurking and looking in on the forum are glad that someone's asked the question they always wanted to ask but were afraid to do so.

HI everyone, I'm Marc from Belgium. I'm mainly taking landscape or architectural pictures during my vacation travels. I used a SLR (Canon AE-1, followed by EOS 300) since 1979, and moved to DSLR (Canon 400D) 8 years ago. I struggled a lot in the beginning to get constant results with this camera (using the kit lenses) and finally last year decide to investigate the technical aspects for improving my shots and even started playing with HDR pictures. So after exploring lots of blogs and forums, I'm finally joining this one.

My name's Dave, I live just outside Manchester, UK. I work full-time in admin and IT - and it's nice to be here. I've followed the tutorials on the site for some time now, and thought it about time I joined.

I got given (yes, for free) a Canon EOS 450D a couple of years ago and a few lenses, and although I do like photography I didn't do much - up until about a year ago when the habit started to kick in. Since then I've taken - and struggled with, many photographs.

So I guess my reasons for joining are to meet like-mined people, possibly go out on photo-shoots with others, but mainly to learn more about my camera and see what others are doing with theirs.

Hopefully you've already seen that there is no such thing as a dumb question on here. And, if you're thinking that you can't ask a question in case it's been asked before, then don't let that get in the way. If you need an answer, ask the question.

If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.

Something else you might find useful. Sometimes people are not sure about asking for comments and criticism on their images. This thread gives you some helpful advice and guidance about how to get the best feedback from fellow members.

Hello, Yudah, That is a very impressive first post into the forum. You say you are a beginner, but you obviously have a well-developed eye for 'seeing' a picture.

I hope that being part of the CiC forum can help you improve your knowledge and skills.

Welcome Yudah...no need to be shy everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable around here and always willing to help.

You picked a tough scene to photograph well! I love the lines of the water around the rocks and think that cropping the foreground rocks would really focus the viewers attention on those lines.

Did you have your camera on a tripod for this shot? Also, what program do you use to edit your images?

Hi I'm Nikki, returning to photography after a very long break. How things have changed! Where have the smelly darkrooms gone? A stunning B/W photo still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!!!!
