Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello,
I'm Hampton and I'm new here obviously. I've always enjoyed taking pictures but never really dug into it the way a real photographer does. I've been taking photos of real estate for my wife for a few years and was thinking about buying her a new camera or at least a different one but I really have no idea what to look for in a camera for that purpose. For real estate it needs to be able to take good pictures of houses both outdoors and indoors including rooms with poor lighting.

Hi Dan, and welcome. Sorry it's taken a couple of days to get back to you.

Glad to have you with us. There are a few member here who shoot real estate, and I am sure someone can advise you. My suggestion is to re-post your question in the "Digital Cameras and Equipment" forum, where a lot more people will read it than here.

It's important to give and idea of what your budget is, and what your wife's level of expertise is, otherwise we won't really know where to start.

    Good luck,

    Dave

P.S. By a coincidence I was in NC earlier this year travelling down the Blue Ridge

Hello new friends! My name is Robin, but most of my friends call me Sky...I answer to both. ;-) I live in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia, high on a hill in Wood County. I do free lance event photography, but my passion is nature photography. I especially love macro. I live in a rural area and spend a lot of my time outside with nature and am forever finding new, wonderful things to take photos of. I can spend hours in a little section of the yard, being amazed and taking photos of all the little creatures I find.

I try to show in photos all of the amazement and wonder that I see and feel in nature.

My feelings about nature and photography are summed up perfectly in a quote by Henry David Thoreau - "It's not what you look at the matters, its what you see."

I'm very happy to be here and am looking forward to learning new things and making new friends!

Hello Robin Sky (I like the names put together ) and a very warm welcome to CiC. There are many of us here who love nature photography (I am one of them, though I don't claim any great expertise) and I really look forward to seeing some of your images.

If you want to learn and make new friends, then you are definitely in the right place.

We seem to be having a bit of a rush from your part of the world. A day ago we had NC and now WV. I've been in WV a couple of times, most recently visiting Harpers Ferry back in June. Yes, it's a lovely place.

I'm really excited to be here and love seeing everyone's photos....wow..lots of talent here! I'm sure to learn all kinds of things! I'm attaching a photo that I took this evening of a little fellow with the perfect seat to enjoy Golden Hour.;-)

Hi - I've enjoyed photography since I was about 12 - using a simple Kodak 35mm 'family' camera. I now use a Lumix DMC - LX5 which I love for its compactness and f2 lens. I am delighted to join the forum and look forward to learning more about this fascinating and constantly evolving medium.

    best regards

Welcome to CiC Neil. I'm sure you'll find a lot of helpful information on this site; we have a lot of extremely competent photographers who are more than happy to help out others, regardless of how long they have been taking pictures. My first camera was a very simple Kodak that my father gave to me when I was quite young.

While you have given us your real name in this post, that won't necessarily be the case in subsequent ones. Can you please go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where you are located. The world is a fairly large place.

I live on the Llano Estacado of North West Texas in Lubbock. I hope to improve my photography by asking for critical analysis of my uploads. Thanks in advance for your help. My name is John.

Welcome to CiC John. I think you will find the members here more than willing to provide you with feedback on the images that you post here. You can't really post directly to this site, so sites that let you link to your images with BB code are the best way to go. I use Flickr for my work, while other members use a variety of other photo sites.

While you have given us your real name in this post, could you please attach it to your profile? To do this go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where you are located, without having to refer back to this post..

Hi I'm a fairly new dslr user, and have a Canon EOS 1200D with an 18-55mm, and a 55-250 EF-S lenses. The 18-55mm lens doesn't have IS. My photography interests are Wildlife, Nature, Macro and Landscape. I was just wondering if I need any other lenses to be more creative, or to get better results. I'm on a strict low budget so nothing over £300 please.

Hello! My name is Mary and I am an amateur photographer in central California. I started out with a 5400 many years ago and am now using a D7000. I am hoping to upgrade soon to a full-frame Nikon. I enjoy photographing architecture and landscapes. This photo was taken at night on the east coast back in the fall of 2006 with my D80 at that time. I am looking forward to sharing and receiving constructive critiques from my peers on my current and future photos.

    Hello and welcome to CiC.

First of all - so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Second up - Your question. My suggestion would be to not worry about other lenses at the moment. that can come later. You task at the moment needs to be about getting to know what the lenses you have can do and to get the very best out of them. Once you feel your knowledge and skills have outgrown those lenses, then you can think about new ones.

Time again for my Lee Trevino story.

The story is told that former top-flight golfer Lee Trevino, when at his height and winning majors, told of how his way of learning and improving was to go out with one golf club. He would practice, practice and practice with that one club until he was confident that he knew he could make it perform to its absolutely highest level. He knew what the club should be able to do and that the only problem in getting it to do that was him.

So, if you're satisfied that you have practiced, practiced and practiced until you know you are getting the very best out of that your lenses, then fine, go for the new equipment. But, if you haven't ....................!

Hello Mary and welcome to the forum.

First thing - I see you referring to posting a picture. It's not there. So, if you need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.

I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and find it both helpful and enjoyable.

Welcome to CiC Ronaldo. Your English looks fine and you are by no means the only non-English speaking member; technically my mother tongue is German, but I have spoken English for most of my life. I also got my first camera when I was around eight, am also almost 60 years old and am an engineer as well (I retired from work one week ago). Photography and travel are two of my passions.

I am a novice photographer. Started with a Canon AE-1 along time ago, stepped up to a Canon EOS Elan and had to progress to my present Canon T2i. I have grand-kids in Soccer and Band and just couldn't afford the cost of film and development any longer. I'm aware that I will never become as skilled as some of the posts I read before I joined! However, I hope to learn from all. I took about 1300 pictures over four Soccer games as I try to get pictures for all players and upload so they can observe themselves during game time. I would like to post one and receive some thoughts on it's quality along with some direction on how to improve! I mostly use a Canon zoom lens to capture the field which is a challenge. I don't have ISO, shutter, or F stops since I was shooting in sport mode. I hope I haven't done anything that is not OK!

Hi Victor, a warm welcome and glad you've decided to join us. Sharing and learning is what CiC is all about, so it sounds like you are in the right place.

Sorry that your first attempt didn't work out. If you haven't already, have a read of this thread, which may help: HELP THREAD: How can I post images here? if it still won't work for you, just shout out and I'm sure we'll get there.

Also, if you wish, you could edit your profile to show your "real" name (what you want to be known by) and whereabouts you are in the world. That way it will appear alongside all your posts like mine here.

    Best wishes,

    Dave

Welcome to CiC, Tony. It sounds like you and I have been into serious photography for about the same length of time and I often question my knowledge of photography too! Regardless, the members here are into all different fields of photography and are more than willing to share their thoughts, knowledge and comments.

I certainly hope that you do the same!

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

I am trying to print a 17 X 22 piece of paper on and Epson Stylus Pro 3880 from Photoshop 7 on a Win 7 computer. I have done this before but tonight I get this error message.
"Make sure the loaded paper and the printer driver settings match."
I have no idea what this means and the manual is no help. In photoshop I have the scaled print size set at 16.5X21.4 The preview looks fine but it won't print. Please help me I need to make 2 prints before this Sunday.
    Thanks Noel
