Hi I am Ankur, living in India. I have been taken photos, mostly portraits. I have a Nikon 40D with an 18-55mm and a 70-300mm lenses. but I have still a lot to learn in using that mode. I found CiC on my search for tutorials on the web and I look forward to join the group.

Hi I am Akila .I love to travel and love to take pictures mostly landscape ,architecture and macro
Hello Akila, and a warm welcome to CiC. We are all about sharing and learning from each other, and though I don't know about professional level (I am certainly not) for sure we can help you improve. Just post a picture in the relevant forum, ask for C&C, and if possible say what aspects you think need improving. Folks here are rather kind in their feedback.

Since you take pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge, that gives a bit of a clue to your whereabouts - could you please update your profile to tell us where you are in the world, and add AKila as your real name. That way it will appear alongside all your posts.

    Regards,

    Dave

Hi. My name is Murray. I'm an amateur shooter but take it seriously and am anxious to improve my skills.
Hi Murray, and welcome to CiC.

We have a few folks here who include horses as a part of their subject, but I don't know any who specialise in thoroughbreds - it will be very interesting to see some of your images. Hopefully, we can help each other to improve our skills.

Could you please update your profile to tell us that you are in Central Kentucky, and perhaps add Murray as your real name. That way they will appear alongside all your posts. We are all on first name terms, and as well as being nice to know where folks are, it can be useful in offering advice.

    Regards,

    Dave

I look forward to learning a great deal from this forum and hopefully I might on occasion be able to contribute as well.

    Hi,

Found this site while searching for some clarity on the definition of focal length. Liked the content and decided I could benefit from joining.

I have had a camera since I got my first Kodak Brownie when I was around the age of 10. I was an avid Nikon user for well over 40 years and still own an analog Nikon which I have recently taken out of retirement. I "left" the world of serious photography for several years and took thousands of pictures with a Panasonic/ Lumix pocket camera. Explored the world of Canon with a 10 megapixel SX 10 Power Shot and created some very nice images. Realized I wanted to do more and for both economic and ergonomic reasons decided that a 4/3 format Lumix would be the ticket. I currently shoot with Lumix DMC-G6 and a variety of Lumix and Olympus lenses. Very pleased with the results.

About two years ago I wandered into the world of post processing. Since then have become quite proficient with Adobe LR and have explored others to a greater or lesser degree. I still view tutorials on LR as there is treasure trove of enhancements one can perform that I have not figured out. PS still remains a bit of an enigma to me but I have a goal to get proficient with it by the end of this year. I am enrolled in a course beginning in late August.

Five months ago an email crossed my desk inviting applicants to a 3 year professional photography program at Peru's leading photo institute. I live and work in Peru and have been in and out of the country since I was 2 years old. I have on two occasions in my life wanted to be a professional photographer but the timing was not right; or, better said, the circumstances at the time did comfortably lend themselves to follow that dream. Perhaps the risk profile was too great. This time i said to myself: "If not now, when?" I submitted my application, had my work reviewed, passed the entrance exams and enrolled in the program. I am the "youngest" in my class. In reality I could be a grandfather to virtually all my classmates.

I complete my first semester this week and I have learned that there is a huge difference between taking pictures and being a photographer. I have learned much about composition, lighting and other technical aspects recognizing that I have even more yet to learn. And, wandering around this site I felt there was much I could learn here too and perhaps contribute where I can.

BTW I am completely bilingual and bicultural. So, if you want to message me in Spanish please feel free to do so.

I look forward to learning and contributing where I am able.

    Happy image making!

    Stephen

The Nature Conservancy Photo Contest Deadline June 30th 2015

The Nature Conservancy is pleased to announce its 2015 Digital Photo Contest and there are only five days left to submit your best nature photos! This year's theme is The New Wild and we'll be thanking the winners with GoPro gear, Patagonia jackets, free memberships, placement in The Nature Conservancy 2017 calendar and more! We're a little low in two types of submissions right now: we’d like to see more diving photos and photos that depict humans in nature.

The contest is open to nature loving U.S. residents over 18; you have till Tuesday, June 30th 12am EST to submit your most beautiful, dramatic images. You may submit as many images as you like via Facebook or through our website http://www.nature.org/photos-and-vid...test/index.htm. To see the amazing work of previous winners, go to http://www.nature.org/photos-and-vid...-slideshow.xml.

Submissions will be judged by a panel of Nature Conservancy employees and guest judges. A People's Choice award will also be determined by whichever of 100 honorable mentions receive the most votes by the public. Voting will take place in August of 2015. Contestants will retain full ownership of their submissions; winners grant The Nature Conservancy royalty free rights to use their winning photos in support of its mission. For official rules and rights, please go to http://www.nature.org/photos-and-vid...fuse/index.htm.

This post will remain in this thread, despite the fact that it not a new member introducing themselves nor is it the sort of post we'd normally accept. However, given the status and reputation of the organisation making the post, we can be content that it not in the category of a scam.

Anyone considering entering the competition should carefully read the rules at http://www.nature.org/photos-and-vid...fuse/index.htm, particularly those relating to what permissions you might be giving the organisation in terms of using your image.

Hi all! I am Jay-Ar. An accountant by day. A musician and a shutterbug when time permits. I have known cambridgeincolour now for a year already, although the main site only, not the forum's. I am almost a year yet on photography. And cambridgeincolour has helped me build my foundation.

My philosophy on photography is this, more or less, I think.
    --
I shoot to produce an afterglow. I shoot to produce good feelings after a pleasurable or successful experience - special, ordinary, and anything in between. Memorable events ought to be remembered as the way they actually happened : not staged. To preserve emotions and be able to feel and live them out more after they happened – that is how I perceive photography.
My passion is to get the image using the skills of a photographer and not the skills of a director or a stage manager.
Some call it street photography, some call it candid portraits, some natural light photography, some photojournalism. I guess I am just a shutterbug who desires to shoot all these at the same time.

*although I am not saying I don't shoot with flash or glam shots, because that would be hypocrisy on my part. I shoot all types. I am just more inclined to what I have stated above.

I want to grow! And there are gems on this site for me and others to grow. And hopefully, soon, I can also help others grow.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello

I am recently (semi) retired and have wanted to get back into photography (mainly landscapes, nature) for the last year or two, so have just treated myself and bought a Nikon D5500+Tamron 18-270mm lens. I have lots to learn, although I have dabbled in basic photography since I was a child.

The tutorials on the CiC site have been a great starting point, to refresh the basics that I have known for years, as well as introducing me to several concepts and factors that either I had not been aware of before, or ones that I had struggled to come to term with previously! Thanks for that.

Once I start to get to grips with the new camera and its capabilities, or probably more correctly, my capabilities, I will no doubt start to ask a lot of questions and ask for other members comments.

    Regards all

    Eddy

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hello, I'm Robin. I'm here because I need help with wildlife photography.

I had a Brownie 127 at school (who didn't?) and a couple of Olympus SLRs (OM2 and OM10) when I was working in Africa, South America and Arabia. My first digital camera was also Olympus but that soon gave way to a Nikon Coolpix 880. Then my wife found a spider...

New member posts: April 2014 to June 2020

Spiders had always been, well, just spiders but this one was different; it was a woodlouse spider, Dysdera crocata, and it started something. In the next few years I found over 80 different species in our small garden in SE England.

The macro facility on the Coolpix 880 was OK; it got me within about 100mm. The next one was chosen for its macro facility; the Nikon Coolpix P80 got me much closer. It took some very satisfying pictures (considering) ...

A small black and white male Misumena vatia rides on the back of the female after mating, defending his investment.

Excellent though it is, the Coolpix P80 is not ideal for the task and I knew I would eventually need a proper macro lens. Now, having upgraded at Christmas to a Nikon D5300 with the 18-140 mm lens and a micro 85 mm, I find the results disappointing and I am here to ask for help.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

    Hi Robin, welcome aboard.

I suspect that some of your disappointment is related to DOF and sensor size issues.

You might want to restate and show us some examples in the Nature and Architecture forum.

Please do Eddy. That's what learning is all about. And I think it's a strength of this forum that even the most knowledgeable and experienced remember that they were once at the start of the learning curve as well. Great to have you here.

Hi, and a warm welcome to our community. An especial welcome since we don't have many members from Nigeria, and probably even fewer young photographers. I hope you enjoy being a member, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

    Best wishes,
