Hello, I'm Tynan, and have been taking picture for almost three years now - and seem to have caught the bug, and I'm in search of knowledge to improve my photography. Although I use a digital camera, I have recently started to get into black & white film photography - which seem to be taking me down different routes of learning. I'm looking forward to being a member of the group!

Tynan, it's great top have you here. Thanks for deciding to join the forum. I hope you find it enjoyable as well as useful.

By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Segun - Welcome to the CiC forum.

You will see that I have removed your e-mail address from your post. this is to ensure that it is not picked up either by a human being or software and then be used to send you spam messages. If people wish to communicate with you directly on a 1:1 basis, they can use the Private Messaging facility on this forum.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hi my name is Dennis and am what one would term an ancient Photographer as I have been taking photographs over many years. In that time I have owned many cameras from a Rollecord 2 1/4 square to 35mm and now digital SLRs. I started with Exacta Varex 35mm reflex cameras and went on to Pentax 35mm of which I have owned several. I have just traded in my last Pentax K3 and lenses as they were getting too heavy to carry around for someone of my years, and now own the latest Panasonic Lumix G7 camera which is much lighter. My Photo graphic interests are landscape, portraits, close ups and macro. I don't generally enter competitions although I once won £5 second prize in a 35mm colour slide competition many years ago. I am looking forward to participating in the forums and hope that I can learn a bit more from members.

As for posting your question - It's probably best asking that question in the General Photography section. So ..........
    • Click on 'Forum' on the menu bar and from the list choose 'General Photography Discussion'
    • Once in that section, you will see a shaded box near the top left that says '+ Post New Thread'. Click on that.
    • The message window will appear. Insert your title and paste or re-type your question into the text area
    • The click on 'Submit New Thread'.

    And that's it.

Hello- I am George, a new member. Started with film and a Kodak Brownie in the 1950's. Picked up a Mamiya C220 (no battery needed!) in Japan in the late 60's that is still in use for landscapes and nature photographs. My usual gear is a Nikon D600 with a range of glass to meet any need. For some 50 years, industrial photographs have been a focus as I visited power plants through out the world (Northern Greenland to McMurdo Station). These days, the trips are closer to home in the Western US.

Hello, I'm Jason - I'm in IT and do a few real estate photographs for money every so often. I'll do film sometimes for fun but generally I stick to digital. I've been doing this for about a decade. Recently switched systems from DSLR to mirrorless and have been enjoying using my strange old film lenses again!

    Hello,
I am 83 years old and have been retired for 23 years. My day job was designing and producing gyroscopes for inertial navigation systems. I began this work in 1955 and I have been party to nearly the whole of the development of these systems. I started taking photographs when I was 16. I am still at it. My photographic interests are centered around railroads.

Hello everyone and may I briefly introduce myself to you? I'm a very keen photographer, not blessed with talent! I'm not in the very best of health, so cannot get to the places where I'd like to be. I therefore like to try and take inspiration from places nearer to home (South Devon) where I'm fortunate enough to benefit from some rather lovely places. My main interest is landscape, but I venture into macro, portraits, animals - in fact anything. So I've got an 'all round' DX Nikon D7200 with a few lenses, filters, tripod and walking shoes! I'm really looking forward to sharing photographs and critique with you and learning from fellow members. Thanks, and best wishes.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hello everyone. I am a 67 year old, sometimes photographer who enjoys processing images on my laptop. My photographs are always record shots (nothing artistic) and I have gathered up a few since getting my first digital camera back in 2003. My current camera is a Nikon D80 but I also use a Fuji FinePix S9500 and very occasionally, a Konica Minolta Dimage Z3. I chose my mobile phone for its camera (Nokia N8) but only use it in emergencies.
I have recently found the benefits of shooting in RAW and updated from Photoshop CS to CS2. However, a week ago, I lashed out and bought Lightroom 6. I am enjoying the challenge of trying to get to grips with it.
Having started out in Monochrome (way back as a teenager) I have now started to dabble in producing the occasional B/W image, just for old times sake.New member posts: April 2014 to June 2020

Hello, my name is maQ! I am new to photography, (started January 2015) and am taking a few courses to help learn the discipline! I have a Nikon d7000 with 18-105 and 70-300 Nikkor lenses. I like Urban, Architectural and Modern Portraiture styles of photography, but I'm new to all of this. I am hoping to learn from all the knowledge exhibited on this site and forum! Thank you... maQSea

Hello, I'm Jim. I began digital photography with the original Canon Ixus, graduated through Canon 400D to 50d to 70D. I accumulated several medium quality lenses and used all this kit in various parts of the World through the use of Cruise ships. My last visit (to China) proved that my aging frame was not going to be happy lugging a lot (a lot!) of weight about any longer. Trying to swap lenses at a high point on the Great Wall while struggling for breath was the decider. So, with a heavy heart, I've just sold the lot. I'm about to purchase a Sony RX 10 (I think) and make future photography easier. I shall miss the glass and the APS-C but will compensate with a lightness of step.
I shoot RAW and have used DPP, PS and PS Elements since their introduction. I'm an avid reader of forums and no doubt I'll be asking a lot of new questions here. I keep reminding myself that 30 years of experience is 98% obsolete knowledge!

    Welcome Jason,

Although we have 'met' in another thread

If you have any other questions, do ask, hopefully we'll be more concise than your first thread

    All the best, Dave

    Hi Mel,

Wow, you have a few years on me, probably on most members.

A warm welcome to the CiC forums from me - I am quite partial to railways as subjects myself.

    Hi Lizzie,

    Welcome to the CiC forums!

Beer; now there's a place that sounds like it should have a brewery instead of a model railway manufacturer.

As an excuse (for me), we took the kids to Pecorama a few years back

I look forward to seeing some pictures from you.

Must get down that way again sometime.

Cheers (sorry; couldn't resist - and I bet you've heard it a thousand times before), Dave
