    Hi Tim,

We're ready and waiting to help - just ask away, ideally in the most appropriate forum, but we won't bite if you pick the wrong one.

I had a brief work trip to the Miami area a few years back, I must say I liked the climate (in November), but I appreciate Florida's a big place and you could be miles from there!

    What are you shooting with?

    Best regards, Dave

    Hi John,

It would seem remiss of me not to welcome you here, although I have replied to another of your posts elsewhere since you joined our community, I might have overlooked a 'welcome' there.

I hope you're finding us helpful and look forward to seeing more from you.

    All the best, Dave

Warm welcome to the CiC forums from me.

If you're new to all this, best way to start is either ask a question about something you're not sure you understand, or post an image for critique.

    Hi Dennis,

Welcome, rather belatedly, to the CiC forums from me - I'm not a competitions man either, so we have that in common.

How are you getting on with the G7?

Warm welcome to the CiC forums from me, Lingaesh.

I wish you well with your desire, but I don't think you'll manage to earn a living from Photography if you have simply completed a short photography course and don't have a camera yet - although I know little of Indian culture and lifestyle. However, I assume your MBA qualification will help with the business side of things.

It is good to have a goal in life, so do stick with yours.

Vicky - now a resident of Placitas, New Mexico, USA.. need a new camera, my point and shoot died, and found this site trying to get some ideas as which direction to go in.. Have joined a couple of groups in this area and most of them have big fancy cameras and are well ahead of my knowledge and they go on photo shoots.. My lifestyle is fast moving and i have found the point and shoot is much more convenient so am trying to somehow create photos on the same level as those I am learning from without having to carry too much equipment.. I may find i need 2 different cameras but that gets quite costly... anyway Hello everyone and thank you for the info I gleaned off this website before joining.

Welcome. What kind of shooting do you want to do?

Selecting a camera and lens combo might hinge on that but there are usually ways to overcome limitations of equipment. For example, using stitching software can actually give better results for landscapes than just using a wide angle lens. Shooting models or still lifes might also drive what you want to do.

    Hi Lollie,

Warm welcome to the CiC forums from me.

Sounds like you've taken a path of improving camera bodies over the years, esp. with the 60D.

What lenses do you shoot with?

We'd love to see some of your macro shots (in a new thread).

    Hi Vicky,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me.

I'd suggest you start a new thread for the camera question in the Digital Cameras & Equipment forum here.

However, my suggestion would be that you can find cameras not much larger than a P&S that allow full manual control of exposure, although their lens might be somewhat limiting in both aperture and focal length ranges.

These days there are many small form factor mirror-less cameras available that combine much of the versatility of those fancy cameras, while keeping the size reasonable, if not pocketable.

As said above, best to carry this topic on in the appropriate forum.

    All the best, Dave

Hi all. My name is Debbie. I guess you can say I'm a photo hobbyist. I'm just so excited to learn from you all. I'm a mother of two kids, and I love taking pictures of my kids. However, they do no like me taking pictures of them. Instead, I take pictures of whatever activity they are in or what they are working on. Usually, I take pictures of their artwork or playing instrument, etc. But I try not to show their face, blur it out, or just part of their face. I just want to learn more about composition and what other ways I can take pictures of their work or at work. I have the basic old Nikon D5100. I had it for a while, but never really use it much because the many features compare to the simple point and shoot camera can be overwhelming. I got the D5100 also because I take short video clips of my kids too. Thanks for letting me join.

First of all, hello Debbie. Great to have you here. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that, indeed, you are helped to learn by sharing pictures, questions, thoughts and ideas with people on here.

Being able to look at what other people have done, as well as developing an ability to criticise your own images is one of the best ways of learning about composition and about being as creative as you want in producing your pictures.

And you're right, it can feel a bit overwhelming to move to a DSLR and realise that it gives you many more options than a point and shoot. The thing to remember is that these options are there to help you make the best possible pictures. You can't master them all at once. So taking things one at-a-time, understanding what each function is about and how to make it work, is the way to approach it. Lots of folks on here will be happy to give you guidance and advice.

    Hello,
This looks like an excellent place to be for anyone interested in Photography and printing of the photographs and my wife and I are senior citizens ( aka-Geezers) that really enjoy both.
We are not professional photographers, just hackers that nevertheless want to improve our skills. We live on the Pacific Coast of California near the ocean so we have no shortage of beautiful scenery. My wife usually has a camera hanging around her neck,(Just a Panasonic super zoom 60x) because we find them really handy for those long shots of whales, etc. I try hard to support the wife with my printers, currently a couple of Epsons and a new( to me) Canon Pro-100. The Canon is great but initially did print a tad dark so that is taking me into researching Color balance devices. I could really use some expert opinions on the best devices for our amateur use. Anyway, it's nice to be here and we are looking forward to being exposed to all the knowledge that is here. Thanks for having us! Regards, Wimpy! ( Love hamburgers)

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello all,

My name is Javed (from Mauritius). I am new to this website; new to photography generally. I have always loved photography but only had compact cameras to play with. However, in the last few year, my father in law bought a Fujifilm HS20 but he doesn't know how to use it and asked me to learn and teach him; so I use that one for landscape and telephotography (it has a x30 lens). Additionally, my brother in law has a Sony A35, which I borrow for macro pictures and portraits. As you can see, I still do not have a camera for myself, so I use what I can borrow from families.
I work full time in school as admin and lecturer. and My hobbies are EDM making, photography, and reading, among others.
I have come across this website a few weeks ago and I find it extremely useful to feed my passion for the subject. It has helped me to learn many things about photography. I hope to practice as much as I can and God-willing, I should be able to afford a DSLR in a few years.

I have uploaded a few pictures from the Sony A35. I hope you can see them. I am new to communicating this way.

    Take care all

Hello, I found this forum while looking for information about converting hdr to jpeg. Glad I found it, looks very informative and helpful! I have been taking pics for most of my life, but just haven't been too serious about it until the last few years. Wow I have so much to learn yet. I started out with a 35mm canon. My first digital camera (I progressed kicking and screaming) was a Fujifilm hs 10, and then upgraded to a canon eos 60d. Have to admit, the digital is fun, but I can be a bit hard headed when it comes to change ;D

Hello and welcome to the CiC forum. Great to have you both here.

First thing - So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper names are, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name(s) by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. If both of you are going to be using this username, why not put your 'real name' as, for example, "John & Janet". Then it/they will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Any, as I say, good to have you here. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and find it useful.
