Very nice website, Peter.
Welcome an d thanks for deciding to join the forum. It is about those of us with some knowledge and experience, sharing that with others so that we can all learn from each other. So I hope you'll be willing to share your skills and help[ those others improve.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hey ho, chums. I'm Will, a new member. I joined because wanted to have a go at the mini photo competitions going on, though last time I tried adding to a competition thread I seemed to be replying to someone else's photo with just the words and my image didn't show up post-upload. Any of you kind folks willing to hint me as to what I should click to have my own individual boxy thing posted as part of a thread? (assuming a thread is, like the competitions, an area where people dump whatever they have to say or show without having to directly address each other)
Thanks everyone.
Edit, I've just realised that by making this post I've pretty much answered my own question.
Hi
My name Wayne Talbot & I enjoy nature & landscape photography. I live in Truro Nova Scotia, Canada.
Hi all,
mi name is Miguel. I live in Madrid. I had my first digital camera some years ago (one of the first Sony DSC-P1). Since then, I've taken a lot of pictures, changing my hear and trying to improve my stile and the quality of my pictures. I love taking pictures and learning, just for fun. CiC has very good tutorials and seems an excellent place for photographers. I expect to enjoy and hope you like my pictures.
Welcome Will. The only other thing you have to do is once you're writing your post and attaching your image, click on the 'Go advanced' button at the bottom right of the window. That allows you then to change the title to the name of your picture. Remember to delete the 'Re: .' that shows up in the title box. If you don't, the automated process thinks it's not a new entry and the title won't show up on the voting list.
Hello my name is Alan,
I'm based in Bermondsey, London. A true cockney, I've been a photographer since I was at School (we had our own Photo Club). Started work in a professional D&P lab, and then moved to selling Cameras. Then drifted away from photography until I took up Painting again where it became useful to take reference shots of what I was painting. This led me into Digital Photography and quickly (too quickly) the bug bit again.
Hello my name is Peter and I live in Niagara Falls Canada. I shot using a Pentax K5 and an older K20 which still gives me great results. I am mostly interested in sports photography and sometimes shoot landscape or wildlife photography. I will send or add a few pics as i get used to this site. Have a great day.
Hola, Miguel, y bienvenido en Cambridge in Colour!mi name is Miguel. I live in Madrid
I had a look at your web site. It looks as though you have a very new family member. Good luck to your family.
I also think we must have been to some similar places. We are keen visitors to Africa, and my wife worked for a year in Uganda when she was much younger. I also recognise A on the Lofoten Islands in Norway - we were there in June of this year. What a small world.
Could you add Miguel as you "real name" and Madrid as your location to your profile, please. It's nice to know where everyone is in the world.
I hope that you enjoy your time here, and I look forward to hearing more from you.
Regards,
Dave
Hello Wayne, and a warm welcome to CiC. I hope you enjoy your time here, and I look forward to seeing some images from beautiful Nova Scotia. It would be great if you could add Wayne and Truro, Nova Scotia to your profile (you'd better add in the Nova Scotia bit, or else people will think you are from Cornwall!).My name Wayne Talbot & I enjoy nature & landscape photography. I live in Truro Nova Scotia, Canada
Thanks, and see you around,
Dave
Hello Peter, and a warm welcome to our community. We seem to be getting a rush of Canadians here today (well, two of you!).Hello my name is Peter and I live in Niagara Falls Canada
Hope you enjoy being here - please do jump in, join in the forums and post some images.
As I've said above, it would be good if you could add your name and location to your profile - that way they appear alongside all of your posts. It's nice to be on first name terms, and if someone is asking for advice it can be useful to know where abouts in the world they are.
Best regards,
Dave
Hello. My name is Nick and am new to this forum. I am an amateur mostly self taught photographer in my 50's, and am on my second DSLR camera. My first was a Nikon d60 which died about a year ago, and now I have a much nicer D3300, and am excited about how much faster and easier to use it is. I took photography in high school in the 70's and gave it up after changing schools and losing my darkroom and camera access. I always wanted to take it up again someday and I guess that day has come. I have a pro account in flickr and have had a few of my photos published , including one in the 2011 East Bay Regional Park District calender, another in the most recent Compass magazine (again for EBRP), one in a book of photographed letters, and several others on various websites I can't remember now. I take pictures mostly on walks with my two dogs in the bay area now and consider myself a landscape or nature photographer. I started out with flower macros, which I find so easy in my area because there are so many nice gardens. I also do wood working, play guitar, and make recycled art. I won the 2015 earth day recycled art grand prize here in Vallejo from VALCOR.
Hi. Recently started using a Micro Four Thirds camera for bird photos. Very interested in what I can learn here. Thanks.
Hi, I am a keen photographer with a Canon7D and my favourite Canon 100-400mm lens. I prefer photographing zoom images of wildlife ,people and textures. I still have a lot to learn in the transition from film SLR to DSLR and about post-processing to bring the best out of the shots I take.
Hi Dave!
Thanks for your reply. Yes, we have had a wonderful baby and I'm taking a lot of pictures of him!
Me and my wife love to travel and as you mention, we have been in Africa several times (Uganda, South Africa...). Incredible continent!.. and also in many other countries like Norway, and more.
I'm still processing and organizing all the pictures I've taken (not sure if I'm going to finish some day...) and expect to create some albums.
Best regards, Miguel.
Thank you for that introduction, Nick. It's my pleasure to welcome you to the CiC forum. I hope you find it enjoyable as well as useful and that you'll share your knowledge and experience so that others can learn from you as well as, hopefully, you picking up ideas from colleagues as well.

Hello and welcome. Thank you for deciding to join the forum. There are a few folk on here who specialise in bird photography and produce some wonderful images. I hope you'll present some of your work as well.

Great to have you here. This forum is very much a part, along with tutorials, of CiC being a learning resource. On the forum we encourage people to share so that we can all learn from each other. I think you'll find there's a whole lot less aggression that you get on many other forums.
