    Hello CiC
    My name is Darren,
I like taking photo's of all sorts of things, from nature to the sky to people etc.
I've been using my Sony camera phone for years, found out I wanted to do more than it could, so decided to take the next step with a bridge camera, (my finances dictate Bridge & not Dslr).
So, I recently went to a Fujifilm Finepix S8200. Love the camera, know its not a DSLR, but still want to do all I can & learn all I can with it.
I hope you guys & gals will pass on some knowledge to a very, novice amature.
CiC pops up a lot in my searches for info regarding photography, I look forward to learning,
    Thank you for your time.
    Kindest greetings
    Darren F Hawkes

Hi Darren, and a warm welcome. I'm not too far down the road (up the road?) from you in east Cheshire. There is absolutely no need to apologise for your camera. We shoot with everything from camera phones to full frame dslr's.

If you want to learn and share, with a bunch of friends, you have come to the right place. Just remember, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

    See you around,

    Dave

    Hi,

I just finished to read the tutorials related to tilt & shift, they are clear, helpful and understandable, even for a German photographer;-) Now I'd like to start to discover the forums and hope to find illuminating discussions.

    Hi all,
I'm Richard. I'm getting back into photography after many years. Getting to grips with my k50, which is like the ISS after my old spotmatic!
I like detail, but I'm trying everything at the mo.

Hello Richard and a very warm welcome. You're one of a number of us on here who has found photography again after life somehow got in the way of our historic interest. So, it's a case of welcome back.

When I did get back in, in 2009, everyone was talking a language I didn't understand - about memory cards and uploads and downloads, etc. But slowly the pieces dropped into place.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

    Hello, I'm Norman.

I enjoy photography but not as industrious as I might be!
I recently moved to a mirrorless Fuji X-E2 (as I cannot hold an SLR anymore without the dreaded shake).
I used to be a member of an advanced photography group until its demise, enjoying many alternative processes. I lost my darkroom in a recent house move and have yet to start creating a digital dim room.

I want to buy a new DSLR camera. Can you suggest me that which camera will be better for beginner hand within the budget of Rs. 30,000? Also I took a review of D3200, 1200D & 700D. If there is any other model then also suggest me.

    Hi,

I'm Mike. I split my time between London and Devon and travel a fair bit, especially to Japan. Have recently revived my interest in photography and bought a Nikon D7200. I am particularly interested in landscape photography and have found the tutorials very helpful. Maybe I'll eventually produce something worth posting.

    Regards

Norman - Apologies for the delay in acknowledging your message. A very war, welcome.

You post obviously indicates a significant amount of knowledge and experience lurking there and I hope you will share that with others on here so that they can learn from you as well as, hopefully, you picking up things from members as well.

By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

I think that there are so many options available in the market at the moment that you need to decide what your budget is. The decide what you want to get from a camera. And then draw up a short-list from which to make a final choice. All cameras nowadays are capable of producing high quality photographs. Most offer the same features. Whatever you buy will allow you to take good photographs.

Oh Mike, don't wait for something you think is worth posting. You'll learn much more by asking for comments and critique on something you don't think is worth posting. Post it up, tell people what you feel is not right/good about it and ask for comments. The sort of helpful advice and guidance you'll get would cost a fortune if you signed up with a professional tutor.

    Please do dive right in.

You can also enter your location (or two) so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi I'm John, from Brisbane in Australia. I purchased a Pentax KX as an entry level SLR a few years ago and have used this to good effect on several overseas trips now. I mostly enjoy taking landscape photos and closeups of nature. I have always had a neutral density filter on my camera, but I found on my recent trip to Provence that a number of my shots were spoiled by dark areas in the corners of the photos, which I then had to edit out. I have since removed the filter, but I haven't had the need to use my camera since to determine if this makes a difference. I would welcome some advice on this.

    Hi Members,

I am Nitin and I have joined this forum primarily to learn photography concepts, get advice from fellow members and grow my freelance photography business. As I am a beginner, I just bought a Canon EOS 1200 DSLR and have also kick started my business as SplendidClicks.
I look forward to a lot of learning from the fellow members of this group.
    Best Regards,
    Nitin

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hi everyone!

I am very busy learning how to get the best out of all my recently acquired photographic equipment, which includes two Canon EOS 70D DSLR cameras, a number of Canon and Sigma lenses, 4 tripods and two Bowens lighting stands.

Fairly soon, I aim to start helping (ordinary) people (as opposed to "celebrities") to write up their life-stories, after first having written up my own life-story, and family origins, for the benefit principally of my two young sons and myself.

My main current interest is therefore in photographing the widest possible number of our family's own possessions, very much including old documents and photos, some of which date back to the last century.

The reason I have invested in two "identical" Canon EOS 70D camera backs, two "identical" Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Lenses and two "identical" UV filters is to use them to quickly take simultaneous photos of all the opposing pages, two at a time, of, say, a handwritten diary.

For that purpose, I need to design, and then have fabricated somewhere in the UK, a hinged "book cradle" (to allow for books where the pages do not open out completely flatly) with appropriately-sized clear glass "plates" to press the pages down in such a way as to avoid all distortions in the images I take.

I would be grateful to know which area(s) of the CIC Forum I should post my questions about all of this to and I very much hope that the discussions that ensue will be of interest to many other Forum members, too.

Many thanks, and all the best for now,

    Clive.

Hello to John, Nitin and Clive

Apologies for the delay in acknowledging your posts and welcoming you to the forum.

So now let me wish you a very warm welcome to the CiC forum and I hope you find it both useful and enjoyable.

Clive - you ask a specific question about which part of the forum to use for a particular question. We are very informal about that and do not bother too much about where people post. It seems to me that your question might fir best into the 'General Photography Discussion' section.

Re: NEW MEMBER? Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hello all.
My name is Mike and I'm from Sydney, Australia.
Despite owning a camera for many years, I have never taken the time to learn how to use the instrument.
I am interested in the natural world, landscapes, macro work and astrophotography.

My current camera is a Nikon D50 complete with the kit lens of 18-70mm, and am planning on adding whatever I may need.
I have two items on my immediate wish list: tamron 150-600mm telezoom and the Nikon 200mm macro lens.

I appreciate the information given so freely by the community here, and admit to having been a lurker for some time now!

    Thanks for reading.

    Hello "All"

My name is Jörg. Although I'm based in Switzerland, I enjoy the benefits of traveling to some quite interesting parts of the world as a result of my job. I hope to be able to do justice to these opportunities by coming back with a few decent shots every now and then. My most daunting journey is the one along the path of photography enlightenment. So much to learn about this wonderful medium of expression!
