Hi all this is Randy from the flatlands of Illinois. From what I have seen so far it looks like there are a lot of talented people on this site. I hope to learn as much as I can from all of you. I just got a T5 from Canon so I have a lot to learn after using the point and shoot powershot cameras for the past few years.
Hello, Randy and welcome to the forum.
There are indeed a lot of talented people on here, but rather than see that as a sign of superiority, as I believe happens on some forums, the most talented people on here always remember that they were once at the start of the learning curve as well and will always be willing to try and offer advice, guidance and support so that we can all learn from each other.

Hi Cambridge folks,
I'm Willem. Dutch, but living since 2006 in Brazil, close to São Paulo. I'm 69 and started shooting in a peaceful way since I was 11 way back in 1957 after having received a nice Ikoflex from my friendly neighbor. I'm addicted since that day. Never was without a camera. Unfortunately -or maybe not, I have been a happy history teacher anyway- I never got to be a professional even having followed various courses and even graduating Art Academy with photography and typography in my package. I have something which is deadly for photographers who want to capture the exact right moment: even though I know a lot about the technics, I just panic and block at the supreme moment, leaving just landscapes, patient persons and macros as an option! But I don't worry too much. What counts for me is the joy of photography, the passion and the challenges.
I never ever had very sophisticated cameras (although I collected lots of analogue ones in the 90's) but I'm perfectly happy with my Nikon Coolpix P7700 and some other nice digital ones I have bought second hand (in the Netherlands: Brazil is not a place to buy anything second-hand!). The most important thing of a camera for me is the fact that I can put it in my pocket to have it anytime and to be able to shoot raw, looking forward to have my quality time in Capture One and Photoshop. Photography is just, next to reading a wonderful thing to live your life.
Regards,
Willem
Hello all!
The photograph was coming to me slowly, with a fully amateur career, until I decided to photograph my tanks…
So I ended up selling all tank setup to buy photographic equipment!
I started with film and then digital.
The studies began self-taught form with an introductory course with my good friend Marcelo Motozono, which was important for my training.
Hence I went into social photography, but always as a second profession, which eventually reduced my total dedication to the art.
After I changed my town, I stopped working professionally, even as a second profession, and I'm now returning to the hobbyist path!
I started using film with Pentax MZ-50 and Nikkormat fTn. My first DSLR camera was a Sony Alpha 200, then a Nikon D90, D300s, D5100 and D700. After that I sold the D700, I bought a Sony HX-300 and now once again I bought another D90. Finally I sold the D90 and bought a Nikon D7200! I have AF lens: 18~55mm, 55~300mm, 40mm, 70~200mm, 50mm and non-AF lens: 50mm, 105mm, 135mm (all Nikkor). I like to photograph all subjects, but I have preference for portraits and street.

Hello to you all.
I've not been much of a a blogger or forumite so far and so it remains to be seen whether this post actually arrives where it is intended and without typos!
Isn't the information on this site great and so clearly and concisely presented.
I am an amateur in Southern England who has joined a camera club and am trying to get to grips with Photoshop. I doubt I shall have any images of adequate quality to post, but hope to improve as time goes by. I have had a DSLR since 2008 but had only used it for holiday snaps and record shots until I joined the local club a couple of years ago. I am hoping for huge leaps forward in my knowledge and image quality!!
Hello Willem. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the forum.
That's a lot of experience in photography that you have built up. I hope you will use that on here to offer advice and guidance to those less experiences.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hello Rufus. Your post has indeed arrived in the right place ... without typos, which is more than I can say for most of my posts!!
Great to have you here. Glad that you find the information on the site helpful. That's thanks to Sean, the site owner who wrote all the tutorials. Hopefully the forum complements that and allows people to engage in direct exchanges for both fun, but also to add to knowledge. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello!
I prefer not to use my real name so just call me Lyccana. I'm just a photography fan living in the colorful Rocky Mountains. I still shoot film and love it, but also have a Canon Rebel DSLR that is my main shooter. I've found myself with quite the camera collection as of late including; 4 digital, 7 analog (35mm), and a single Polaroid instant. I like dabbling in street photography, landscape, and playing with a shallow depth of field. I love learning all I can about photography techniques, gear, and anything related. I'm hoping to expand my knowledge and skills as well as find a more constructive way to share in photography with others.
I'm excited for CiC and all that it can teach!
My name is Jim Dole and I am from Gahanna, Ohio. Have been taking photos of football, basketball games, nature, travel photos for about 7 years now. Getting pretty good but would love to get better. Especially with post processing. I have a Canon 20D and a Canon 7D which I love. A few lens such as the canon 100 mm 2.8L macro which I consider my best lens. Also have the Canon 100/400 mm L lens. Wish it was a 2.8 but I am happy with it. Would love to get together with other photographers in the Columbus area to take photos with and to learn more post processing. Have a great photography day. Also... nice to be here.
Hello - found this site when I was searching the internet for ideas about workflow. I had Pentax cameras in the 70s and 80s but then other things in my life took over. Six months ago I bought a Canon 70D with 18-55 lens. Recently I bought a Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter which has a Sony video camera. I have downloaded LightZone. With the new hardware and software I am on a steep learning curve! I travel outside of the UK for work about 12 weeks a year and my wife and I love travelling - just back from 2 months in Singapore, Western Australia, Hong Kong and China. We have a campervan and have traveled in the UK and Europe and in 2015 in Morocco. So plenty of opportunities to take photos.

Hello all,
I am Yayati Ekbote aka soundingmusical. I am an IT professional and a musician but I have recently developed interest in photography. I bought a new entry level DSLR camera Nikon D5200 with basic 18-55 kit lens. I read many tutorials, articles and videos related to photography but somehow when I look at photos from professionals and compare them with mine, I think I lag way behind. I would really like to enhance my photography skills. I don't wish to become a professional photographer, but I need to please my self with my photography! I like portrait and landscape photography a lot. Recently I have tried basic Astro-photography and photography in starry nights. I think communicating with critics on this platform will improve my skills.
