Hello everyone! greetins from oakland. This forum has everything that i need. Thanksss
I’m Jim Richards and I’ve lived in a small village, 2,500 feet above sea level, in central Italy for the last fifteen years. Originally from the English West Country, I spent 32 years prior to retiring to Italy as an English lecturer in the Fens of Eastern England. This June I bought a FZ300. I had a 35mm SLR with a range of lenses in the nineteen-seventies and went over to digital compacts - the Panasonic TZ range - around 10 years ago. The most recent was a TZ40 and this summer needing to shoot a lot of video I decided I needed a camera with an EVF and after a lot of reading around went for the Panasonic FZ300 owing to its 2.8 aperture being available throughout the zoom’s range, its weatherproofing and - after four years on the market - its affordability.
Hi Martin, and welcome. There have been a lot of equipment changes over 40 years, but the basics of photography are just the same! There are many members here with an interest in landscape and wildlife (my passion is for wildlife) so you'll find lots to share and discuss. If you want to refresh your memory, do check out the tutorials on this site (free, of course!)
Hope to hear and see more from you, Dave
Hello Sherwin, and a warm welcome to CiC. This is a great place to learn and share.
Your link to your web site didn't quite work, though I could follow it by cutting and pasting. If you want some constructive help on particular images, it's better to post them into the thread. You can do that by clicking on the little picture frame above your message, and copying the link from your web site (if you have any problems, just ask).
Also, if you are starting out, it's well worth looking at the tutorials on this site - they will give you a good start.
Best regards, Dave
Hi Lilly Ann, and a warm welcome to CiC. Pleased to see that you are already contributing to the forums - they really are the lifeblood of CiC. A couple of questions, is there a specific type of photography that interests you, and (just for interest) what part of the States do you hail from?
Best regards, Dave
Hi Jim, and a warm welcome to CiC. That's quite an Odyssey from the west country, to the Fens, to the middle of Italy. There must be some amazing landscapes where you are now. What sort of balance do you strike between video and stills (as you probably gathered, this site is mostly about stills, though there are some very experienced videographers here).
Best regards, Dave
Hi! I'm from Mexico. My purpose is to improve my photography skills and learn from the expericence of others. We always learn new things everyday. Thank you in advanced!

Hi guys, my name is Adele, I am from South Africa. I have been a member since 2011 but have always been to shy to post anything - I know its bad :-)

Warm regards

Hi folk - Joined after having googled a review on here, sadly nothing has changed over the years on the subject, the wheel still goes around.
OK me: Professional military aviation photojournalist since 1989. First SLR was a Canon AE-1 in 1971. Used and owned Nikon, Leica, Pentax, Mamiya, Hasselblad and others but still rate and use Canon's system so maybe I'm a Canon dinosaur
Maybe I can offer a view/advise through experience on here and learn something too! Perhaps someone can begin on advising me how to upload a Profile picture because I'm going around in circles right now
John
Hello,
I am a novice railroad photographer looking to improve my skill set. I shoot with a Nikon D3400 and have a very limited understanding of photoshop. Looking for advice and critique on ways to improve my photos.
Thanks for having me and look forward to it
Justin

All the best: Trev
Hello Everyone! My name is Bipul, currently in Germany. I am a color enthusiastic with a core interest in color management; from image acquisition to printing.
Thank you very much I appreciate that!
I have acquired a Canon Powershot G1X Mark III for artistic purposes - and I wonder if camera settings for white balance and picture style affects the raw-pictures? I save both jpeg and raw when I am taking pictures.
No, these settings do not affect the image data in the raw file. However, they will be included in EXIF, and your raw conversion software may use these data to do the initial rendering of the image. For example, Lightroom will use the white balance but not the rest, although it has optional profiles that will emulate the picture styles. That initial rendering is just a starting point, and you can change it.

Thank you for the answer. it means that it is only wrong focus and erratic EV-value that cannot be corrected in raw-editing? it is a little strange that Canon does not empathize this in an otherwise detailed user manual.
As a senior with many years of analog photography I have just recently started to go beyond jpeg in digital photography.
I will use Canons "Digital Photo Professional 4" for editing of raw/jpeg-pictures that Canon provides for free for owners of canon-cameras. In addition I have got Nina Baileys guide for this software.
