Annie was a puppy-mill dog, confined to a cage and bred over and over until animal control confiscated several dogs from those terrible conditions
We have rescued Annie and are fostering her. She is cleaning up quite well.
Mira was rescued from the same puppy mill. She had mammary tumors and her teeth were positively rotten.
She had the tumors (luckily benign) removed and almost all her teeth pulled at the vet but, she does quite well on softer food and on kibble that we moisten. The coat around her muzzle is beginning to look cleaner.
Both dogs had giardia (Giardiasis refers to an intestinal infection that is caused by the protozoan parasite giardia) and we have had them on a regimen of antibiotics prescribed by out vet. They are now free of the condition...
BTW: Puppy mills are where most of the dogs sold in pet stores at the malls come from. Purchasing at a pet store simply supports the terrible puppy mills who often sell unhealthy dogs raised in awful conditions...
