Re: A Night Drive
Thanks Shadowman.... Just a little background to this shot, Took a 30 min drive out round town to see what could be achieved with tripod mounted between front seats. You do need a clear road, ie no oncoming traffic or cars in front of you. You also need a straight piece of road and a driver who stays still for the shutter release period. I could have done this largely in post. IE shot the light trails and then set up a still vehicle to get ultrasharp internals then combined the images in post but this was just to see what was achievable. So instead of an hour in photoshop this is a 5 min lightroom adjustment of an image straight from the camera. Off the top of my head, Tokina 11-16mm at 16mm on my D750, ( using this lens at less causes vigneting with the DX lens at less than 15mm and I don't have the 14-24 Nikon monster ), F9 or 10 ( cant remember ) at 4 seconds and ISO800 and the additional info not usually needed but this was at 30MPH. When you do this you really do see what colour shifts are around with the different light sources, going from sodium vapour through to orangey tungsten and all in between. Their are a few issues with the composition.... and Im sure the eagle eyed will note more than I saw.... The windscreen needs a bloomin good clean inside and out, I didn't expect that to be so visible but we live and learn. The drivers left sleeve has some jumper sticking out from the cuff and the sunvisor is down on the drivers side but not the passenger side, Im also not convinced I got the image straightened out enough..... but this was just a test of what I could achieve, and the principle worked out well enough for a first go. The thing is just get out their and press the shutter, gear doesn't matter..... well I could have done with a more sturdy SMALL tripod.... it was cramped in the back :-) but I could have taken this with any camera with a tripod. I was seriously pleased with the first test.... I will try and improve on this one and see if I can post some back to back results for comment. As always CC appreciated.
As my old teacher used to say on my annual report..... Must Try Harder.

Re: A Night Drive
I've seen quite a lot of this kind of scenario while driving on my way home when I was in Melbourne...but had not really taken a shot. Thanks for the inspiration...
