Mountain View with a painted look . . . Constructive advice welcome

I am really nervous about posting this photo . . . some may like the painted look of the photo but I am sure there some who are going to dislike it . . . the trees in the original photo were really dark in the photo but in real life there splashes of color . . . so in order to improve myself I would like to hear the comments. Hope you enjoy.

    Looks OK to me.

I suspect this would look good printed on canvas for the full painted effect.

Yes I agree with you, if I were to print it, it would definately be on a canvas. Thank you for your comments.

It looks fine to me except that I wonder why the warm tones in the sky extend so high on both sides but not in the middle.

Never start out a thread seeking feedback with such negative personal views.

Nicely captured golden view, I like everything and only wish there was more of the foreground surface area to complement the golden ridges.

    Hi Kathy,

    Even I like it

If anything; I'd prefer to see just a tad more foreground grass to give the trees something to grow from.

My only other observation is that the sunlit peak is very central to the composition and unless there was something 'untoward' just off to the right, I think there might have been a better composition if you had turned a little to the right, no more than 20% of the view's width.

You could get an idea of what I mean by cropping 20% off the left hand side, but I think that spoils the aspect ratio.

I hope those thoughts are helpful and not intimidating.

    Cheers, Dave

    +1 to Mike's comment.

    +1 to Dave's comment.

The other "issue" I have with the image is the rather uninteresting sky. This shot needs some clouds up there, but there aren't any. It would have been great to have had some in the shot as working them in by doing so in post is going to be a lot of work to make them look right given the light.

I used a radial filter in LR placed it in the the center of the photo and radiated warm tones to the outside. Thanks for your input

Thank you Manfred for your advice, I did ask God to bring me some clouds that day but it didn't work out LOL!!

All I would ask for this Kathy, is a little more FG otherwise I think that it would stand the test of time. Print it and hang it. I think the colour top left and right is partly down to the fact that the mountain is nicely placed in a patch of blue sky and the light clouds, that are confined to the top corners of the composition, are reflecting the setting sun. The radial filter added to this. You might be able to bring out the cloud texture more to emphasise the fact (but don't change the depth of colour - it's enough). Lovely image.

Every landscape photographer's issue - return visits to get the image we wanted to capture on the first try. I have revisited the same scene four and five times before I was able to get the shot I wanted to get.

We go to this place almost every summer, so I will try again

Have you ever seen a sky that looked like the results you produced? I haven't, which is why the sky looks so surrealistic to me in the context of the rest of the image looking so realistic.

Thank you for clearing that up, this photo was taken from a parking lot so everything in front of the trees is pavement.
