Ah thanks George, yes that kinda makes sense now, although the floor level seems wrong, perhaps the illuminated area is up a few steps?
And/or the windows go down to floor level and Raj was on his knees to get the view with minimal reflections

Raj - I don't see an obvious solution other than a reshoot so that there is more continuity in the image and the mirrored pillar gets cut out of the image. It just adds something that looks quite strange in the shot and it shouldn't be something that the viewer's eyes get distracted by.

I was wondering how reflection could give me a "positive" image of the towers. But I now realize that the buildings are not the reflection, but the people. Good captured.

Could you brush some blur into this area to a similar level of the prople on the right - I would think the balance of the photo would not be affected.

Lovely shots by the way - love them both for different reasons but if I were wall hanging, I would put the colour version up

I like the colour version and I do not find the wall/edge that worries Manfred particularly distracting. Would be better without it but not a big problem for me. Have you considered cropping some off the bottom so none of the street is seen. I do not think the very bottom adds anything and the picture just seems more unified if you make the reflections the most dominant element.

Hmmm, I like the coloured version very much. Because I am not a B&W fan. But the peoples reflections in it, I don't know. I think the photo is much better without the peoples standing above and the reflections.

Although I like B/W images very much, but in this instance I prefer definitely the coulor image....somewhat the b/w/ image looks a bit " untidy " to me, cannot explain why, but perhaps the reflections ?

Hi Raj,

I'm another one that immediately thought to monochrome the people half of the image, or at least, vastly reduce the saturation; those reds and blues really attract the eye.

With regard to that sharp edge Manfred pointed out, if mine, I'd 'clone extend' the ceiling tiles and dark walls over it.


I have to confess that I am still trying to understand what I am looking at - I assume it is the city lights viewed through a glass floor cantilevered outside the building, with the reflection of the inside of the building, part of me wonders why the reflection isn't inverted though - if it is a double reflection, then I have lost the 'construct' (in my head) of what I am seeing.


Bottom line is, I find the view far more appealing than the combination, I'm trying to mentally 'filter out' all the reflections. If I had access, I'd shoot with a (circ.) polariser and remove the distractions entirely - but that's not what you perhaps want to hear

That said, I can understand why, if the scene is as I imagine, you would take a shot (as would I), but for people un-used to the view, we find that more interesting - and in colour, of course.

I like the picture, but it's one you've to know what you're looking at.

Yes the camera was at approx knee level, the reason we cant see reflection in the lower half bcoz of the lack of light in that area and I remember slightly that my camera was facing slightly upwards so that i can cut down the reflection in the lower half bcoz of lack of light.
