    Mia Portraits (13 images)

A girl I work with asked me to do some candid portraits of her daughter Mia today, I jumped at the chance because I'm trying to get as much experience as possible. Plus it was something to do in this poor weather

These are all done using natural light through the kitchen window.

These are my first draft edits...
    C&C appreciated.

There aren't any failures here; but that sort of situation always causes me problems if I have to decide on just one best shot.

#2 looks good to me because these is a sense of movement and other items are present to give the scene a bit of context.

#7 with the bubbles is also particularly good.

#11,12 & 13 also have a little bit of extra interest; but is there a very slight greenish tint on these?

Lovely model! I think #10 is the best in terms of the composition and lighting. The slight green colour cast can be easily fixed.

I would try shooting in a different lighting (with a large window behind you or with a flash through an umbrella) and to crop tighter.

    #2, #5, #7, #12 are very nice.

Sorry, Matt, can't offer any c&c. What a lovely, sensitive set.

What a cute child, Matt. I don't do people so have little to offer in the way of C/C. Personally I do like the soft lighting. You had a poor studio with the distracting lines of the baseboard in the BG. The last shot is awesome with those beautiful eyes. If you have room in the original a slightly different crop to place the child looking into the frame more might be a slight improvement.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I've made a few edits - made them a bit brighter, got rid of the green tint (i think) and made a few slight probably unnoticeable crop changes.

She's an adorable little girl Matt ~ the mom must have been pleased with the images. Based on my experience to date, what I can share is... try to get lower - so you are more on an eye level with the child. In a number of the images, based on the angle and the way the child is looking, you appear to be higher than her. By doing this, it would have helped to avoid the baseboard being behind her head. Also, something Bill helped me with - since she is your primary subject, consider what percentage of the image she occupying -- you could prob go tighter on some of the crops. I hope that's helpful to you.
