    Peeking through the portal

Stanley Point on Auckland's harbour is one of the city's oldest suburbs, and is characterized by many gracious villas that date back before the last century or for the first couple of decades of the 1900's. I went for a drive/walk around and took photos of a few of the ones that caught my eye. The following image is not a great piece of photography - I happily admit that it was never intended to be, but what caught my attention in the first place and continues to hold my interest, is the view through the house to the patio beyond, with a table set and the view out over the harbour that it must afford. As I stood looking over the hedge I really felt like a kid in a candy store, with his nose pressed against the glass (read hedge). I wanted to sit there and enjoy the moment on that patio... I still do.

I kept the remnants of the hedge to remind myself of where I was at the time...

    The gory details: Canon 60D, 15-85mm lens, 70mm, f/10, 1/320sec, ISO 200

Great eye! I really like both this type of photo and this particular photo for the same reasons you like it.

Beautiful.... had you tried a vertical close up of the scenery as viewed through the door, like a frame in frame type ?

Interesting shot - a little peek into someone else's life. Over $10/hr just looking at the view....

If it is only 3 days since you took the photograph the villa has probably increased in value by $1000. Would have gained more the same time last year but the property market is slowing down.

    I prefer the full shot.

Both photos are very nice. My eye keeps wanting look through the door in the first picture and see what is behind the back door! That second picture confirms a sea side photo!

Yes, I agree it would cost me just to walk through I suspect. The simple pleasures of the rich!

still, it provided me with an interesting view. I like the full shot because it gives more context for the villa.
