    Rocks inspired by purplehaze.

Like purplehaze I too am drawn by piles of rocks. Earlier this month she posted this thread :Broken Shield and it came to my mind recently when out with the camera. From purplehaze's rock inspiration I now present my pile of rocks for comment and criticism. I quite enjoyed doing the B&W conversion and shaping the image the way I wanted to see it. The risk, of course, is that this sort of image can tend to be very personal and just not speak to others at all.

Andrew, you have warmed my heart. I think part of the appeal of rock shots is the abundance of texture and tone and light and shadow and of course line. So much visual stimulation, what to do with it all? I actually reworked my Shield shot and you have given me the courage to share it. Meanwhile, I will tell you what I see in your shot that I like and would concentrate on enhancing if it were mine: a line of stepping stones starting lower left, moving up towards the right and then curling back onto itself. A lovely line, actually. I will be interested to know if that is what you saw, too.

That rock with the holes: is that some kind of foundation stone?

I can't tell you how impeccable your timing is in terms of giving me a much needed pick-me-up. A big hug to you.

Yes Janis.....the line of stepping stones, the semblance of a staircase was exactly what I hoped people would see in the shot. Adjustments I made were with the intent of bringing that feature out. Thank you for the feedback!

That is what I noticed too -- the stepping stone arrangement. The one at the front seems a little bit short of it because there is only one but the side going to the right is a nice touch too though that 4th rock seems to stop the accend. So much textures here.

Okay, I take it from your framing that you meant for people to read from left to right across the frame. I wonder if my eye sees the line curl up and back because of the similar tone of the second-to-last stepping stone on the RH side, and the one above it?
