Nikon D810 (pixels do matter)

IMO the D810 is the finest digital camera that Nikon has produced to-date. The combination of high resolution and high dynamic range of the sensor, elimination of the anti-alias filter, and the various features of the pro body make it a pure pleasure to work with.

The detail that this thing is capable of is astonishing. I wish my skills matched its capabilities on more than random occasions. Below is an example of the possibilities.

Incredible detail in that crop, and a lovely image. We don't get too many bears around here, but it doesn't stop me having a little gear envy, even if I'm still paying for my d7100...

This is a great example of knowing the style of photography one concentrates on, knowing the output one wants to be able to produce (examples: large prints vs. Internet displays) and, most important, knowing the equipment that is ideal for making all of that happen. Considering the cost of a Nikon D810 and the glass of commensurate quality, I'm grateful that I don't have the requirements that would justify purchasing the equipment. My wife is especially grateful.

The equipment is mostly wasted on me as well. I pointed this shot out to my bride and suggested that we print a wall size version of it to display in our home. To her credit after 30+ years of marriage she is able to refrain from obscenities and get the same message across with a mere glance in my direction. And maybe a slight roll of the eyes

yup, I was not questioning what was the cost - your cost and mine are different if I look at US stores for kit compared to UK - thats what it would cost me, what I was saying was given the quality and capability its worth it! a bit in line with the thread - pixels do matter, y'dont them pixerls for free! I have no idea what was paid and like you would not ask, I guess it lost something in translation that old saw - two great nations seperated by a common language.
