    Windmill

This is a work in progress. This windmill is across the road from my house and it is beginning to fall apart. Today I noticed if the wind gusts were just right it would spin for a short time, something I wanted to capture. So, I shot this, the sky was a dull whitish blue, looks awful in color. I'll keep trying to capture the windmill with a better sky, clouds, etc., but often it never spins on those days. C & C always.

    Dean,

Seems like a really interesting ongoing project.

In your current composition, I can imagine the windmill creating a breeze and causing the branches to move.

Dean - your shot brings back some childhood memories of going for a drive in the country and seeing Aeromotor wind-powered water pumps at almost every farm we passed by. You are right, the few remaining ones I have seen are usually falling apart and most would not turn even in gale force winds (they'd probably get knocked over, in truth).

A comment on your B&W conversion. It's very muddy and the image looks quite underexposed. Consider pulling in your white point to brighten things up. In general, in a B&W image, you should have the full range of pure black to pure white in the shot.

One can never go too far wrong with a windmill subject.

Interesting shot...about 1/250 shutter speed? Your EXIF was truncated.

I wouldn't wait for the clouds to come as they might be distracting. IMO it looks better without the clouds. An interesting and nice image

Thanks to all for your viewing and comments.

Manfred, I appreciate your suggestions. You are correct about most windmills being in disrepair. I recently met a man who helps maintain the windmills on the King Ranch. The ranch is slightly large than Rhode Island.

Izzie, shutter speed was 1/10 of a second (using ND filter).
