    Common Blues

Didn't do much nature last year but these were taken at my local reserve. Must have been there after birdlife because I notice that I have used the 150 - 600mm Tamron. It's not done a bad job though considering it's not designed for macro.

Those bigger lenses can be worthwhile when you can't approach close to your subject; bearing in mind their weight, particularly when handheld.

Using a 150-600mm as a macro? with interesting results too? Something must have hit your head...you've done some nice shots here. Although #1 is a bit on the busy side, the blue came out very nice and almost out of the place. Beautiful butterfly. The second one, I am left to wonder what it is doing, was it depositing something? It is good shot too...

Thank you Izzie, thank you Binnur. Izzie, as Geoff suggests, you can stand back from the subject and avoid disturbing it provided the shutter speed is high enough for hand held. Looking at the meta data, these were taken at 1/1000th sec and 1/4000th sec respectively. There must have been plenty of light. Not something I would do as a matter of course though. I would rather use a dedicated macro lens if I can.
