Re: 1980's NYC
Thanks Izzie. I understand Mike's point though that it it a bit anachronistic to have a modern cell phone in what could be an image from the 80's.

Re: 1980's NYC
Greg, back in the 80's NYC wasn't the pretty girl she is today; wilder, meaner, messier, graffiti everywhere, so with the pile of garbage bags on the corner, the stuffed trash can against the building, and the two characters in center image just struck me as a through back to what NYC was like before it got cleaned up and Disneyized (think sanitized but specifically done by Disney corp., that's pretty much Times Square and the 'nice' has spread throughout the city, basically a good thing.)

Re: 1980's NYC
John, not sure if cigarette cases were in vogue in NYC in the 80's. It's funny, we only recognize it as a phone because they're so common, but the woman could just as easily been looking at a makeup case, a day planner or some other non-phone thing. But your having mentioned a cigarette case is very coincidental, as I happen to have one that belonged to my father. Just about the size of a modern smart phone, opens like a book, smokes in both halves, with a lighter on the top...for the man who had everything.

Re: 1980's NYC
Jack I have a hiphop photography book of images in the Bronx in the late 70s and 80s... very gritty but great photographs!

Re: 1980's NYC
Cool, so then does my photo have any resemblance to those in your book, in so far as a general feel or look?

Re: 1980's NYC
JackP ... my family relic dates from around 1930 and I gave up smoking in 1974. Looks like a silver I-Pad.
