The Arcade........

We have several arcades here in Adelaide, but this one has still a bit of " old ' charm feeling IMO......

Nice shot Griddi. Everything seems to work. You've nailed the composition, technical and PP side of things beautifully.

The leading lines take the viewer's eyes right into the image. Your camera alignment and positioning give the image a very symmetrical view and by keeping the camera level, you have no distortion in the image. Well done!

Robbie....thank you....yes it is a single exposure, but if you look a bit further ahead on the photo, you can see that there is another balustrade, and I walked up to this, and also took a photo, but the distance to the end of the arcade was sort of to short, and I did not like it, and later deleted the image.......

John....you are absolute right......also there are of course steps leading up to the second floor which is a turn off for some people, on the other hand, I think there must be somewhere a lift too, but I did not see one.......and the steps burned some calories ........

However, one thought did occur to me, triggered by Robbie's question as to whether it was a single exposure - that got me thinking; 'Hmmmm, what could we do with more than one exposure of a scene like this?', the answer that popped in to my head is to shoot the scene with a polarising filter to reduce or remove the reflections on the shop windows - now I'm not even sure that is a valid idea; it would remove a lot of the light toned reflections of walls and the globe lights too, which might not improve the picture at all, possibly quite the opposite.

When I originally had the thought, I was thinking it might need to be shot twice; once with filter angled for windows on left and again with it rotated for those reflections on the right, but then I figured that the alignment might actually be the same (vertical).

Thinking further, I guess a shot could also be taken with the polariser rotated horizontal which may increase the contrast in the tiled floor in the distance by removing the sheen from it - but again, I'm really not sure that's the right thing to do; it may destroy part of the illusion of depth.

Robbie, any thoughts on the benefits or otherwise of a polarising filter?

About using a polarizing filter....I think it would have certainly be worth a try.......but I must confess, that I do not have for my two cameras which I use most, a polarizing filter ( s ) ....

I have the Fuji X100 ( the Arcade photo was taken with it ) and I also have a Fuji XT-1......but both do not have any filters, perhaps I should buy the polarizing filters for these ?

But reading about your thoughts about the filters, I think perhaps, as the X100 has an inbuilt ND filter, I could have using it ?
I also have my little Leica D-Lux 6 which also has an inbuilt ND filter........

Next time I am in the city, I will just to try out, take another photo with the ND filter, and perhaps buy for both cameras a polarizing filter.......Would it be worth to have a polarizing filter ?
