    Seagulls in flight

Me again - these are from last year when I had the canon 1100D, and they are heavily cropped from a 50mm prime. This is very much out of my comfort zone as photography goes, but I think they are a decent first effort. Nowadays my 70-300VC and 24mp camera would probably give me a better starting point!

    Hi Simon:

They are both great captures! The only suggestion I would make is (if you can) to crop the second image so the bird is more to the left (as you did in the first) rather than in the centre of the image, giving it a sense of flying into the picture.

Thanks Trev - there's no room to crop differently with image 2 but I could add some space with a content aware fill in photoshop, it seems to handle clouds very well.

Very nice composition in #1. I like the dramatic light and the clouds.

Not sure about the purple sky in #2 though.

Yes, I agree -- first thing that I thought of: #1 is much nicer for the drama. Good shot.

I like both of them If the image was mine I would change the color of purple clouds and make them blue.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Trev, your first edit is much improved, but I'm not a fan of it in b+w!

Interestingly, the sky looks very purple when I look at the image on my ipad, but not so much on my laptop. I haven't calibrated so it's something I need to keep an eye on.
