    Climb the trunk

I just got back from a 16 day vacation in SW Florida. Really enjoyed the warm weather especially now that I'm back home in cold snowy northern Ontario.
I took a lot of typical vacation type photos, which I wont show here, but also did some hiking and exploring which yielded a few images I like.

Dave, welcome back...I like this shot, but I think that the top is over the top. If mine, I would remove that top part of the climber but still show a little bit of the shadows getting dark as it goes...Good job -- I like the highlighted part of your composition. Good eye for seeing this.

Nice contrast of color against the grey bark. Not sure if you guys have that plant in your part of the country. That's poison ivy. Beautiful but can be very annoying for some people. The green bush at lower right is annoying(photographically).

Dave, I see yours and it reminded me of one I have, quite similar to yours. Always a great splash of color anywhere you see the plant.

Regarding the plant: Dan I believe you are incorrect about it being poison ivy, I think it might be Virginia Creeper. Very, very similar to poison ivy except poison ivy (only/always) has 3 leaves (leaflets). You will note that this plant has 5 leaflets. Common mistake but as I am sensitive to poison ivy I kinda make sure I can identify it.
P.s. Poison ivy and Virginian creeper are often found together so it's never a bad thing to keep one's distance.

I hope you are right Jack...because I have experienced the ones in our backyard through Tucker's fur when he was alive...so Bill said if I am going to the "forest" side of our property be on the lookout for poison ivy. It has 5 leaves in one stem. So when I am with the dogs and want to do some weeding over there, I am fully clothe from the neck down, you know, long pants, long sleeves, gloves and neck cover. Ours over this way is green but it resembles that image as shown. Virginia creepers are most beautiful and red.

    Re: Climb the trunk

Thank you for the comments. I took this image in SW Florida but here in Ontario our poison ivy is a green 3 leaf plant that grows on the forest floor. I've been affected by them several times while fighting forest fires. Most of the plants in Florida were foreign to me so to be safe I didn't touch them and kept to the path.
